Here’s How That The Vampire Lestat Plot Twist Sets Up The Season Finale

If the latest episode of The Vampire Lestat left you shell-shocked, you aren’t alone.

While this season has mainly been a deep dive into Lestat and his backstory, the B-plot has finally entered the equation.

There are a million questions to be asked after watching Armand and Daniel decapitate Louis and Lestat’s heads.

What are Daniel and Armand’s intentions? What will happen to Louis and Lestat? And how does Akasha factor into all of this?

Ahead of the season finale, let’s dive into some theories about how The Vampire Lestat Season 1 Episode 6 sets up the final confrontation.

Off With Their Heads!

Let’s address the obvious: there’s no way Louis and Lestat are actually dead.

The show has been dropping hints that decapitation isn’t inherently a death knell for vampires, such as Dr. Fareed’s one-off quote about how vampires can survive up to several hours while decapitated.

Sure, the actual beheading was surprising, but after sitting with that scene, it becomes clear that this isn’t the end for Loustat.

(Sophie Giraud/AMC)

The biggest problem at hand is how Louis and Lestat will survive this decapitation logistically.

Given that they’re both unable to actually save themselves, another character would have to intervene and reattach the lost heads to their rightful bodies.

While Lestat may have gotten closer than ever to his band members (save for Alex, who has obviously made his feelings clear), I don’t think TC or Salamander are coming to his rescue any time soon.

The same goes for Gabriella.

The only scenario I could see her coming to Lestat’s rescue is in carrying out The Great Conversion, but even then, I suspect that Gabriella has just been using The Great Conversion to manipulate Lestat into doing her bidding.

Unless Daniel and Armand have a sudden change of heart, there’s one way that Louis and Lestat can be saved.

And that comes down to none other than Akasha.

Queen of the Damned

Even though this season is titled The Vampire Lestat, the show incorporates elements from Queen of the Damned.

Namely, the fact that we finally get to meet Queen Akasha, arguably the most powerful vampire in the Vampire Chronicles.

Her awakening scene in The Vampire Lestat Season 1 Episode 5 has left fans in total awe and wondering what else she’s capable of.

While I don’t think she’s going to personally reattach the severed heads, I do think she will somehow play a role in how Lestat and Louis get revived.

It’s been a running joke that Lestat keeps flaunting that he has “the blood of Akasha” in him. As funny as that statement might seem on the surface, maybe there’s some truth to the power of Akasha that runs through Lestat’s blood.

Plus, knowing that Lestat’s music helped Akasha wake up, we know that it’s imperative for Lestat to play the concert and bring Akasha into the world at full force.

So, somehow, Akasha — or people on her side — will definitely intervene and bring forth her epic entry into the modern-day world.

But powerful vampiric awakenings and imminent apocalypse aside, allow me to put my Devil’s Minion cap on for a second.

For those who haven’t read the books, the Devil’s Minion plotline, which refers to Daniel and Armand’s turbulent will-they-won’t-they, might’ve seemed like it came out of the blue.

I wish we had more scenes throughout the season between Daniel and Armand, as Daniel’s progression from resenting Armand to joining his side felt rather quick.

However, I suspect that we might get some insight into how Armand fully won Daniel over to his plan in the next episode.

Also, I have a feeling we’ll get more of the story behind Armand and Alex, though Alex won’t be sticking around for long given Larry’s fate.

Some fans have been wondering whether the end of the season might lead to the Tale of the Body Thief and whether a body swap might happen.

(Sophie Giraud/AMC)

At this point, there don’t seem to be enough clues — other than hints from the auction in The Vampire Lestat Season 1 Episode 1 — as to how that would happen, but anything seems possible at this point.

Season 4 is all but confirmed, so some of the questions raised might not be answered next week.

Still, we can cross our fingers and hope to see Akasha one more time before the inevitable waiting period for the next season.
