Illinois Mom Allegedly Killed Her Toddler After Getting ‘Very Invested’ In Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

A heartbreaking and disturbing case is unfolding in Illinois, where a mother is accused of killing her 2-year-old son shortly after reportedly discussing and becoming heavily invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial with some of her friends.

Corie A. Walsh, 40 and pictured above in her mugshot, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder back on Tuesday of this week, according to online court records viewed by People and others. The charges stem from the death of her toddler son, Barrett Walsh, also known as “Bear,” NBC Chicago, ABC 7 Chicago, and Fox News have all reported, citing court documents.

According to NBC Chicago, police responded to a Frankfort residence shortly after 4 p.m. on that day after receiving a report of an injured, unresponsive child. Court documents allege that a neighbor found Barrett hanging by his neck from a basement rafter and immediately began CPR.

Prosecutors reportedly allege Walsh, who is accused of killing the toddler, supposedly believed her young son was the “anti-Christ” and the “devil.”

WTF…

After Barrett was found, officers reportedly discovered Walsh upstairs in a bathtub with non-life-threatening knife wounds believed to have been self-inflicted.

Then comes the connection to Lindsay Clancy’s case. Per People and others, witnesses reportedly told police in Frankfort that Walsh had “recently become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial” and had been “actively discussing” it in a group text just hours before Barrett’s alleged killing. Seriously…

Clancy, as we’ve been reporting, is a former labor and delivery nurse who was accused of killing her three children at the family’s Massachusetts home in January 2023.

Back on Friday, jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict in Clancy’s case, resulting in a mistrial. Prosecutors have not said whether they will retry the case.

Meanwhile, in a statement obtained by ABC 7 Chicago, an attorney for Walsh said:

“She was experiencing a psychotic episode. This is a tragedy for the Walsh family, all of whom are mourning the loss of this child.”

For the time being, Walsh remains in custody and is receiving medical treatment, according to local media outlets.

What a terrible, terrible story…
