Ever since the beginning when Gervonta Tank Davis had been one of the most sought-after targets for the series of public challenges, he now has one-from Jake Paul himself. A promotional image with the caption: “You can run but you can’t hide Tanky,” generated yet another round of hype about the possibility or confirmation of this fight between the YouTuber-turned-boxer with his unbeaten Shadow. In a way, this move continues in the vein of a strategy by which Paul sets up great-name fighters, thus garnering attention to his own boxing career.

The now social media idol joined his former-style stirs. He appeared to have posted a fight promo image directed straight at one of boxing’s most sinister pound-for-pound talents, Gervonta Davis. The caption was short and sweet-not so sweet: “You can run but you can’t hide Tanky.” Classic Jake-all confidence and in your mentions.
The reaction, though? Let’s just say, the boxing community isn’t buying this one from him. A user responded quite harshly: “Shave that head 7 head punk! You go a full hair line hiding behind some fake a bangs! Just like you. I bet you 1,000 that you wouldn’t last in bare-knuckle boxing Nd I get to pick your opponent.” Too much.
Then a different gross comment came along: “This is, like, a gay porn ad. Disgusting.” Definitely, those were not holding back, followed by many people bringing up Paul’s prior loss to Tommy Fury, one of which said, “Tommy already whooped ur ass I’m good.” You can’t argue with recent history.
The weight difference became the stunt for debate. Davis is fighting at 135 while Paul has been fighting at almost 200.
One recalcitrant commentator pointed to the obvious: “Don’t you feel embarrassed, ok his a top boxer but his half Ur weight and he will still pepper you, you don’t fight people Ur age or level, cowboy.” Another added, “Actually he can, cuz he’s a foot shorter than you dork.” So the size mismatch is being noticed.
Everywhere, questions regarding the probable legitimacy of this alleged fight arise. “Dude it’s an exhibition. Can you guys even hits each other fr?” asked a fan emphatically. Another wondered, “How is this even sanctioned? This has to be just an exhibition with no effect on win or lose… Completely different weight classes.” The circus vibe is very strong with this one.
And they would be curt dismissals: “Nobody wants to see this shit fight,” said a user. Another user jokingly said, “I wouldn’t want to fight Tank… and I’m a 600-pound hippo.” The money aspect of this thing got roasted: “Nobody is paying for this. Better be free lol.”

Not all negatives, though, come from people who believe, “Jake Paul is about to knockout Gervonte Tank Davis in round 6 watch.” Another one said: “Can’t wait till you beat his ass and prove how fake boxing is.” So, for better or worse, there is a faction still backing Jake.

But generally? Critical, and from accusations of cherry-picking opponents to questioning the very structure of the bout, the reactions have been on the pretty much skeptical side of the spectrum. Jake Paul has controlled the combat sports conversation from the beginning, but for now, this chorus of doubt is loudest in the room. Whether or not this fight actually takes place, under whatever rules, remains to be seen; but what is sure is that this has been a great publicized stunt for Jake; even if most people are not saying what he wanted to hear.
