Jason Statham Is Back in First Trailer for New Action Thriller ‘Shelter’

Action movie icon Jason Statham is back, and doing what he does best, in the first trailer for the action thriller Shelter, which is due to hit theaters next month. Finding The Stath on wonderfully familiar ground as a mysterious man with a violent past, Shelter once again puts the A Working Man star in the role of protector when he is forced to put his particular set of skills to good use after rescuing a girl on the run. You can check out the first trailer and further details for Shelter below.

While Jason Statham is more than capable of selling a new action thriller on his own, Shelter boasts the perfect director for the Beekeeper actor. The action flick finds him joining forces with Ric Roman Waugh, who is best known for helming the Gerard Butler-led action efforts Greenland, Angel Has Fallen, and the upcoming Greenland 2: Migration. Written by Ward Parry, Shelter also boasts an all-star cast that includes odhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet), Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), and Daniel Mays (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) alongside The Stath.

Shelter is due to be released in theaters on January 30, 2026, courtesy of Black Bear Pictures, and you can check out the official synopsis below…

On a remote coastal island, a reclusive man rescues a young girl from a deadly storm, drawing them both into danger. Forced out of isolation, he must confront his turbulent past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption.

Next Year Could Be Jason Statham’s Best

Shelter has already been hailed as a “classic” action thriller by star Naomi Ackie, who, in an exclusive chat with MovieWeb, heaped praise on Jason Statham’s unique talents that have cemented him as modern cinema’s favorite action hero.

“Oh, it was so much fun. I don’t know if I can give anything away. You know, it’s, it’s such a different, a different world, but it’s so much fun. It’s a classic that I think the only way I can describe it is, it’s like, you know, Jason Statham is so good at making exciting action films that feel extremely watchable and so it’s actually so much fun being a part of that world… I had a ball. I was there for like, a few, a few days. I was there for like, maybe a week, and, yeah, so much fun.”

Jason Statham continues to fly the flag for gloriously no-nonsense action movies. This year, The Stath took the lead in the Sylvester Stallone-scripted and David Ayer directed A Working Man, which proved to be another big hit for the action star at both the box office and on streaming. The Stath shows no signs of slowing down following the release of A Working Man, with 2026 gearing up to be the best year for Statham fans yet.

Alongside Shelter, the actor and martial artist is all set to lead Plane director Jean-François Richet’s Mutiny, which is due for release on August 21, 2026; will join forces with Nobody 2 and The Shadow Strays director Timo Tjahjanto for The Beekeeper 2, which has now been picked up for distribution by Amazon MGM Studios; and will reunite with director Guy Ritchie for the pair’s long-gestating action crime thriller and Layer Cake semi-sequel, Viva La Madness.
