Jenna Ortega reveals new details, including slasher-themed episode

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has revealed new details about the show’s upcoming second season.

Speaking to Collider recently, Ortega – plays the titular Wednesday Addams – shared new information on season two of Netflix‘s hit show. Season two of Wednesday has yet to receive a release date, but is expected to premiere on Netflix this year. A reason for an unconfirmed premiere date, despite having wrapped filming late last year, stems from work being incomplete, Ortega said.

She explained to Collider: “We’re still in the edit. I was doing ADR for it two weeks ago. That’s the funny thing about these jobs is you’re done, you wrap, but you’re not really done. So, I’ll probably be working on it until the end.”

While the wait for season two continues, Jenna Ortega’s shared more details about the upcoming show to tide fans over. Judging from her comments to Collider, season two is shaping up to be the show’s most explosive collection of episodes yet.

Ortega revealed: “Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we’ve ever had. It’s crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head—that’s all I can say— and it reminds me so much of Full Metal Jacket. It’s insane. So bizarre.”

One particular episode in season two will offer fans a fresh feel: “I just feel like there are a lot of scenes and frames, and there’s a whole episode based off of slashers, and we make a lot of horror references. So, everything about it, I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust, and therefore, we felt like we could do bigger, more elaborate sequences, which is nice.”

Elsewhere, Ortega shared an update on a potential third season: “We haven’t gotten an official thumbs up or anything like that, but I know that the writers are… With a show like that, you kind of want to get ahead of the game. So, I think that they’re kind of messing around and throwing out ideas.”

The first season of Wednesday scored a four-star review with Alex Flood writing for NME: “Wednesday ends up a rare spin-off success story. It’s creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky – and an absolute treat.”
