As well as Antony Starr (Homelander), Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), and Jack Quaid (Hughie) returning for the show’s final ever season, Jensen Ackles is also set to reprise his role as the fan-favorite, foul-mouthed ‘hero,’ Soldier Boy. Filming for Season 5 is ongoing, and fans are eager to know when the final season will be released on Prime Video. Luckily, Jensen Ackles has us covered, as Soldier Boy himself has revealed when filming will end, hinting at when the series will be released.
Speaking to CBR to promote his new Prime Video series, Countdown, Jensen Ackles gave a gigantic update regarding filming on The Boys’ final season. Production on Season 5 only began a few short months ago, but showrunner Eric Kripke has almost brought things to a close. The actor was asked about his incredibly busy workload and the differences between working on broadcast TV and a streaming series. Referencing The Boys, he responded:
“We were doing 23 episodes per season on Supernatural, and it was a grind to do broadcast TV at that pace and to that extent. Now, I’m conditioned for it. I mean, people ask me, ‘How are you working so much?’ Because The Boys is currently filming Season 5 right now.”

Jensen Ackles Will Return as Soldier Boy After ‘The Boys’ Season 5
Prime Video
Many of The Boys’ core cast members will be saying their final goodbyes to their beloved characters next month. The series began streaming on Prime Video in 2019 and has been one of the streamer’s most popular and successful shows since. At a time when superhero movies are starting to go the way of the western genre, The Boys has maintained a strong fan base and viewership.
Season 5 might mark the end of Homelander and Billy Butcher’s rivalry, but The Boys is just the beginning for Jensen Ackles and Soldier Boy. As the rest of the cast shed tears over their characters, Ackles will be preparing to reprise the role in the upcoming prequel series, Vought Rising. The spin-off will also see Aya Cash return as the not-so-secret Nazi, Stormfront. Vought Rising will depict the company’s early days during the mid-20th Century. The prequel is slowly filling out its cast, although a release date has not yet been set.
As for The Boys, Season 5 doesn’t have an exact release date yet. But, thanks to Jensen Ackles’ latest update, fans are now expecting the final ever season to release sometime in 2026.
