A women’s basketball player at Kentucky State University has been detained by ICE for a month and a half, according to a report from the Louisville Courier Journal.
Aminata Seck, a 26-year-old center on the Division II school’s roster, was reportedly detained by the immigration agency on Aug. 7. Sadiqa Reynolds, a lawyer helping coordinate Seck’s case, told the Courier Journal that Seck was arrested after going through security at the Louisville airport, as the Thorobrettes basketball team was traveling to a tournament in New York.

Reynolds told the Courier Journal that Seck has been moved at least four times between Clay County, Chicago, Clark County and Grayson County since being detained. As of Sunday, Seck is listed in the inmate listings at Grayson County Detention Center.
According to the university’s athletics website, Seck is originally from Dakar, Senegal; she is listed on the official roster as “Amina” Seck.
Reynolds told the Courier Journal that Seck may have missed a deadline for her student visa paperwork after having back surgery. Seck is also currently suffering from an ACL injury, per Reynolds, and has not had much access to ice or medical attention while in custody.
Kentucky State head coach Amani Williams has reportedly been involved in advocating for Seck, going “above and beyond,” per Reynolds.
Seck, a 6’4″ center, was entering her third year on the Thorobrettes roster. She played in 20 games for KSU last season, scoring 238 points.
