The Friday season opener will occur during one of the biggest volleyball weeks in the state in recent memory. San Antonio is hosting the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Final Four the day before and the national championship on the following Sunday. It is the first time Texas is hosting the championship since 2011.
LOVB Houston’s home schedule features a match on the Sunday after New Year’s, three matches in eight days starting at the end of January and a four-match home stretch in March that includes a midweek matchup against rival Austin.
This is Houston’s third season and the league’s third season. Houston finished as the top team in the regular season last year before losing in the semifinals.
Sanja Tomašević is the reigning league coach of the year and outside hitter Jordan Thompson is the reigning league MVP. Thompson is one of nine players on the team who has represented a national team in international play.
