Love, Death & Robots Red Band Trailer Teases All 8 New Episodes Debuting on Netflix This Week

A new red-band trailer for season 2 of Netflix’s warped anthology series Love, Death & Robots has now been unleashed, and promises the same level of disturbing delight as the first outing…now with even more blood. Love, Death & Robots spans across various genres, combining science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy into a deformed genre beast of its, with each short being given a unique animation style from traditional 2D to photo-real 3D CGI.

The series is produced by Deadpool’s Tim Miller and seminal director David Fincher, along with Jennifer Miller, and Joshua Donen. Netflix has teased the eight-episode second season saying, “The NSFW animated anthology returns with a vengeance. Naked giants, Christmas demons, and robots-gone-wild. Consume irresponsibly. From wild adventures on far-flung planets to unsettling encounters close to home: The Emmy-winning anthology returns with a crop of provocative tales.”

Much like the first season, season 2 of Love, Death & Robots will feature world-class animation creators bringing captivating stories to life in the form of unique and visceral viewing experiences. The animated anthology series will again include tales that explore alternate histories, life for robots in a post-apocalyptic city and, if you really need more proof of Love, Death & Robots’ unique approach to storytelling, a plot for world domination by super-intelligent yogurt.

The episodes that make up the upcoming second season are titled Automated Customer Service, Ice, Pop Squad, Snow in the Desert, The Tall Grass, All Through the House, Life Hutch, and The Drowned Giant and will feature such talent as How to Train Your Dragon’s Simon Otto, Tron: Uprising’s Robert Valley, as well as Tim Miller himself on directing duty.

Volume 2 of Love, Death & Robots has been billed as “a blast of the future with its roots deep in the past.” Deadpool director Tim Miller previously said that “Love, Death + Robots is my dream project, it combines my love of animation and amazing stories. Midnight movies, comics, books and magazines of fantastic fiction have inspired me for decades, but they were relegated to the fringe culture of geeks and nerds of which I was a part. I’m so f***ing excited that the creative landscape has finally changed enough for adult-themed animation to become part of a larger cultural conversation.”

Co-creator Tim Miller continued saying he “couldn’t have been happier at the response to the show,” adding “It was exactly the kind of passionate reception from animation fans David and I hoped for, but for many long years had been told wouldn’t happen.” Miller will be joined by Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2, Kung Fu Panda 3) as Supervising Director for the upcoming second season, with Nelson calling the show “a tonal and stylistic Jenga game.”

The adult animated anthology series premiered back in 2019 and received largely positive reviews from critics, holding an approval rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season went on to win several Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards including Outstanding Short Form Animated Program, providing audiences with a distinctive, creative sci-fi/horror endeavour, with many moments that will remain burned into our nightmares forever.

The eight-episode second season of Love, Death & Robots is set to be released to Netflix on May 14, 2021, with an eight-episode third season scheduled for release sometime in 2022.
