Talk about a cliffhanger, man!

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 9 dialed up the intrigue and left us with a stunning cliffhanger ahead of the season finale.

In a sense, ending the penultimate episode in such a way is a little pointless.

There’s virtually zero chance Jennifer managed to shoot Paula because if she did, the story would be over.

Tatiana Maslany’s Paula is the beating heart of this Apple TV series, and I don’t see how it could continue without her. Every single plot leads back to Paula, so the cliffhanger didn’t really feel necessary.

Now, there’s a case to be made for Jennifer killing Detective Baxter because he’s far less consequential to the overall story.

Plus, killing him off would be a great way for Detective Gonzalez to become the ruthless detective she’s been hiding all season.

Jennifer has made a critical error in going after Paula because every single person who crosses her winds up dead or wounded.

I’m not quite sure where Jennifer’s story is headed, but with one episode left, it’ll have to wrap up quickly so Paula can take down Brian and the rest of the bad guys.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Sets Up a Shocking Finale

On Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 8, Paula realized the only way to clear her name was to uncover the truth about Dennis and Trevor’s operation on her own.

Armed with all the evidence under the sun, how else was this supposed to go?

It was difficult watching Paula become an outcast with Karl, Mallory, and the mom group at the school.

Receiving notifications about all the events she should be attending as a parent put Paula in an impossible position.

If she doesn’t go, she feels like a bad parent. If she does, everyone will gossip, and Hazel will very likely learn the truth about her arrest.

She was damned if she did and damned if she didn’t, but I’m getting so freaking tired of Karl and Mallory acting like she’s the one in the wrong when all she really wants is to show up for her daughter.

Karl is well aware Paula never actually killed anyone, or he wouldn’t have bailed her out on Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 7.

He’s conflicted because Mallory is slowly but surely getting her claws into him and sowing seeds of doubt about Paula.

At this point, all Mallory really wants is to push Paula out of their lives.

She’s on a bit of a power trip because she knows the legal system like the back of her hand.

She has money and influence, and her treatment of Paula is becoming increasingly despicable.

The same can be said of Karl, who’s largely following Mallory’s lead rather than standing up for the mother of his child.

The only redemption left for Karl is to defend Paula and finally tell Mallory to stop meddling.

I felt a sense of relief for Paula when Steve showed up and gave her all the photos from the art show.

She knows how people are talking about her and how wrong they are, but she also understands why everything looks so bad from the outside.

No one wants to be associated with someone who’s been arrested for murder, but Steve showing up for her highlighted that he didn’t believe she was capable of it.

Jennifer’s Big Swing Could be Her Undoing

If someone who’s only just gotten to know Paula can piece that together, then why can’t the people who’ve known her for years?

Jennifer attacking Rudy in his apartment was a massive turning point because the stolen phone and the lengths the people behind the scenes went to recover it finally proved to him that Paula has been telling the truth all along.

I didn’t expect him to run straight to Geri with the news, but he probably figured her expertise, combined with Paula’s, would be the fastest way to crack the case.

Geri has been such a wild card throughout Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1.

For a while, I genuinely thought she’d be the one to solve the entire case.

Then she sold out Paula, which was just icky.

Now that the trio are back together and getting answers so quickly, there should finally be some meaningful resolution.

What I liked most about their scenes together was Rudy’s reaction to being shut down by the woman who had crossed several lines and had been manipulated into admitting a kid to Yale.

Rudy has been on the fence all season, but now that he has all the facts, he’s fully willing to go to bat for Paula and Geri.

That’s a huge turning point in itself.

The only real question left is whether Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed can tie all of this together in a satisfying way with just one episode remaining.

A second season has yet to be confirmed, and it’s a bit concerning that we still haven’t heard anything.

For that reason, I want the finale to deliver plenty of closure, with just a small tease about where the series could go next if it earns another season.

What are your thoughts on the trio working together again? How do you think the final episode will shake out?

Let’s keep the conversation going — it’s the only way the good stuff survives.
