Meghan Markle‘s elegant sense of style was on full display at the Invictus Games in The Hague, Netherlands. The Duchess of Sussex took the stage during the opening ceremony in a sophisticated bodysuit that instantly recalled a famous Princess Diana portrait. Displayed as part of an exhibition titled “Diana, Princess of Wales by Mario Testino” in 2005, the image was among Testino’s last photographs of the Princess of Wales. In the portrait (taken five months before her death), she posed in a stunning off-the-shoulder gown by Catherine Walker, draped similarly to Markle’s look today.

Designed by New York label Khaite, Markle’s off-the-shoulder bodysuit feels like a sentimental nod to the late princess. Combining classic draping techniques with a modern touch, the bodysuit features a plunging neckline, a textured knot detail, and a stretchy cotton jersey bodice.

The duchess tucked it into tailored smoking pants, making a case for effortless day-to-evening dressing. She kept her jewelry minimal, accessorizing with a simple gold choker, stud earrings, two diamond bracelets, and rings. Her wavy hair was parted in the middle, with two curls framing her soft, glam makeup. Peeking under her long trousers, a pair of mesh pointed pumps with satin trims by Manolo Blahnik completed her ensemble.

This was one among many ravishing looks Markle wore to the sporting event. For the welcome reception, she donned a crisp double-breasted Valentino suit, accessorizing with her signature Cartier Tank Française watch, which Princess Diana also loved. Later that day, she was photographed in a white minidress with small floral cutouts across the shoulders and neckline, embracing a spring-forward style.
