Mets hold players-only meeting after losing 12 of 15 games

The New York Mets are getting vocal in the clubhouse in an attempt to end their slump.

The Mets held a players-only meeting following a 9-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. The team has lost 12 of 15 games, including the first two of a weekend series against the NL Central-dwelling Pirates.

Outfielder Brandon Nimmo said Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso were among the six-to-seven players to speak during the postgame chat.

“It was good,” Nimmo said, according to SNY. “It was more of like, ‘Let’s have a community chat about it.’ … Let’s see if it works or not.”

Outfielder Juan Soto also reinforced the club’s need to keep its self-belief, a source told Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Meanwhile, Lindor acknowledged afterward that it was important for players to be vocal about their thoughts.

“We’re all going through the same thing at the same time. Why not talk about it?” Lindor said.

New York is now half a game behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East lead.
