Following the monumental success of last year’s The Beekeeper, action movie icon Jason Statham
returns to the big screen this week with the equally brilliant-looking A Working Man. Well, we say “equally brilliant,” but based on the first reactions, the reunion of Statham and The Beekeeper’s David Ayer is sounding even better.
Beginning with X/Twitter user and critic @NextBestPicture, A Working Man finds Statham at his absolute best, with the “no-nonsense blockbuster” delivering nothing less than “relentless entertainment, packed with hard-hitting set pieces and a Statham performance that’s as fierce as it is grounded.”
“A WORKING MAN is easily my favorite Jason Statham-led action film in quite some time. Leaps and bounds better than his last collaboration with David Ayer. While it may run a bit long, this blue-collar, no-nonsense blockbuster delivers relentless entertainment, packed with hard-hitting set pieces and a Statham performance that’s as fierce as it is grounded. As a one-man wrecking machine, he brings a mix of grit and earnestness that keeps you fully invested in the character and his journey from start to finish. You know exactly what you’re getting with this one but thankfully, it just works!”

The action thriller finds Statham leading as an isolated man who finds himself the target of a dangerous local gang.
Critic Courtney Howard, meanwhile, calls A Working Man the reason we go to the movies, praising the “vengeance-fueled beat-downs, a flinty anti-hero & a lil’ sincerity.” And she cannot wait for what Statham and Ayer get up to next.
“@DavidAyerMovies’ #AWorkingMan is what we go to the movies for: Gripping vengeance-fueled beat-downs, a flinty anti-hero & a lil’ sincerity. A chiseled, no mercy brawler & rollicking, crowd-pleasing great time seeing Jason Statham kick ass. We need 1 of these collabs every year.”
Jason Statham Is Reacher Meets Rambo in ‘A Working Man’

X/Twitter user and critic @HunterBVideo calls A Working Man “pure action excellence. David Ayer and Jason Statham combine for another satisfying outing at the movies. It might be more Death Wish than Commando, but Statham is in his Charles Bronson era, and I love it.” While @dancindanonfilm promises that the action outing gives Statham fans exactly what they’re looking for, concluding, “You know what you’re getting with a Jason Statham movie, and #AWorkingMan delivers the goods. Not as much over-the-top fun as The Beekeeper, but this throwback to the ‘80s Action Star Vehicle works a treat, even if it does get bogged down by an unnecessarily complex plot.”
On the slightly more negative side, @billbria longed for the thrills of The Beekeeper, but did favorably compare A Working Man to the likes of Reacher and Rambo.
“If you’re hoping that #AWorkingMan is THE BEEKEEPER, TOO, you’d better wait for that film’s sequel. But if you want some REACHER-style brawlin’ with a dash of RAMBO spice and HARD TARGET seasoning, Statham & Ayer deliver. This duo’s electric; hope they make something every year!”
Finally, @ThatHashtagShow could not get enough of watching The Stath enact violent retribution on human traffickers in A Working Man.
“A Working Man flat out kicks ass. Jason Statham is in his element with David Ayer directing a hard-nosed action film. It’s satisfying to see Statham go after human traffickers with reckless abandon.”
A Working Man stars David Harbour (Stranger Things), as well as Michael Peña (End of Watch), Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Arianna Rivas (The Black Phone 2), Noemi Gonzalez (Selena: The Series), and Emmett J. Scanlan (Peaky Blinders, Kin) alongside Statham. The action thriller is due to hit theaters on March 28, 2025, and you can check out the official synopsis below.
“Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined.”
