‘The Accountant’ Has Become a Modern Action Fan-Favorite
Amazon MGM Studios
Released back in 2016, the first The Accountant outing follows Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a certified public accountant with autism who has an affinity for numbers and makes his living manipulating the books of criminal and terrorist organizations around the world that are experiencing internal embezzlement. As Wolff gets closer to the truth about a discrepancy that involves millions of dollars, the body count starts to rise as Christian reveals himself to be just as good at killing as he is at accountancy.
The first movie was met with seriously mixed reviews from critics, landing a score of just 53% on Rotten Tomatoes and thus being paired with a big, green splat for all time. However, audiences were captivated by Ben Affleck’s performance, the action sequences, and the shady world of criminal organizations and assassins, awarding the action movie 77% on the Popcornmeter.

Ben Affleck’s ‘The Accountant 2’ has been officially rated R, with the promise of a brutal, action-packed sequel.
Critics who did like the movie were Matt Goldberg of Collider, who heaped praise on Affleck’s central performance…and his accounting skills, saying, “When the story is just focused on Affleck is when The Accountant is at its best. In fact, the scene where he does actual accounting is my favorite scene in the movie.” Chris Agar of Screen Rant, meanwhile, took some issues with the movie’s inability to blend so many genres, including “crime, action, and even romantic-comedy,” but ultimately concluded…
On the positive side of the spectrum, it crafts a very fascinating main character in Christian; someone who has difficulties socializing and “fitting in” even though he wants to. The Accountant is at its most captivating when he is on-screen, as it’s interesting to watch Wolff’s daily routine and how he reacts to various scenarios.
