Many Johnny Depp fans still want Amber Heard removed from Aquaman 2 and a new petition has been launched for Blake Lively to take over her role.

There hasn’t been any indication of Amber Heard completely losing her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, but that hasn’t stopped people from trying to make the removal happen. More than four million people have signed a petition for Heard to be cut from the film due to allegations made by Johnny Depp that she has been abusive to him before fabricating domestic violence allegations against him when their marriage was over. The former couple is now suing each other in court.
Most of the public opinion related to the case seems to be on Depp’s side. The petition for her removal from Aquaman 2 had more than doubled in size since the start of the trial, resulting in rumors that she had her scenes removed to less than ten minutes of overall screen time. Heard also testified that she “fought hard” to stay in the film, alleging that Warner Bros. had wanted to have her removed. The studio has not confirmed nor denied the rumors as of this time.

In any case, many fans have been offering suggestions for other performers who could potentially replace Heard if the role ever does end up getting recast. Emilia Clarke has come up a lot, given her previous working relationship with Jason Momoa on the HBO series Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, many other fans have been throwing their support behind Blake Lively for the potential recasting. Fans have been expressing this opinion on social media frequently and there has since been a new petition launched at Change.org calling for Lively to officially get the part.
“After the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and all the negative ‘energy’ around the latest, and since Blake Lively is a much likable actress and human being,” the petition description reads.

Will the Petitions Have Amber Heard Removed from Aquaman 2?
Warner Bros. Pictures
It doesn’t seem likely that the role of Mera will be recast for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Though the film was pushed back to 2023, it has already completed filming, and carrying out reshoots to put in a new actress would be very costly for the studio. It would have been much easier to have Heard’s role as Mera reduced if not completely removed, which appears to be what happened, according to recent court testimony from Heard.
“I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film,” Heard said, noting her role had been “very pared down” from what it was originally. “I was given a script. Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on March 17, 2023. The fan art above comes to us from SPDRMNKYXXIII on Instagram.
