The King of the Monsters appears to be experiencing a true renaissance. What began nearly 70 years ago with director Ishirō Honda’s seminal film, Gojira (1954), aka Godzilla, has become the longest-running and one of the most lucrative movie franchises of all time. And fans can celebrate in style on the official Godzilla Day this Friday, November 3.
First, Godzilla Day will mark the beginning of ticket sales in the United States for Toho’s Godzilla Minus One, which opens on December 1. Plus, there will be early access screenings held on Wednesday, November 29, which includes IMAX and premium formats. Second, fans of the radioactive Kaiju can enjoy a 24-hour marathon on Pluto TV’s live channel, solely devoted to the King of the Monsters! Titles to stream or binge-watch on the platform include an uncut version of Gojira, the 1956 American version Godzilla, King of the Monsters! and the action-packed monster mash Godzilla: Final Wars, among many other Toho titles.
The third way fans can celebrate Godzilla Day is to do so a little bit early. On Wednesday, November 1, special screenings of Godzilla 2000, courtesy of Fathom Events, will be held. Godzilla 2000 was Toho’s answer to the controversial TriStar and Sony Pictures take on the monster who has become known as “Zilla” by the fandom. And this one-day-only event will feature the Japanese language director’s cut of Godzilla 2000.
