Dash Mihok has been in the Hollywood game for decades, having starred in high-profile films like Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. He’s still friends with Leonardo DiCaprio and recently told MovieWeb about how they’ve stayed in touch and even have a new project in the works. In addition to the Shakespeare film adaptation, Mihok has worked with other award-winning filmmakers, including David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) and Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line).
And now, Mihok has a new family-focused film with Silver Linings Playbook co-star Jacki Weaver, titled Wildflower. Based on a true story, the comedy-drama follows Bea Johnson (Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka) from birth to graduation as she navigates life with two intellectually disabled parents (Mihok and Samantha Hyde) and an extended family (including Weaver and Jean Smart) who can’t quite agree on the best way to help. Learn more about Mihok’s latest projects below following his recent interview with MovieWeb.

Wildflower, Mihok’s New Album, and a Friendship with Leo
Mihok is an instantly recognizable face from both the big and small screen. More recently, you might know him from the original Showtime series, Ray Donovan, and Law & Order: Organized Crime, which is what he was shooting in New York when he got the script for Wildflower. “I wasn’t clear that I wanted to play sort of an arrested personality again — been there, done that in a lot of ways,” he recently told MovieWeb. Mihok continued:
“But then I read it and I thought, ‘Oh, this will be a real challenge to find new ways to make it more personal and more specific to the character.’ And really, it was a page-turner once I started reading, and I was like, ‘Everybody’s gonna want to be in this, because it’s just fun.’ It flowed, and I laughed, and I didn’t even know [who would be cast], but I figured good actors would come. I didn’t know that caliber [of acting]. And then it was down to the wire, but they figured out my schedule. And luckily, I got to be a part of this. It’s big on family, whether it makes you laugh or cry.”

Looking ahead, Dash Mihok dished on filmmakers he’d love to work with down the line. “There are so many up-and-coming,” he said. “Like the Daniels [with Everything Everywhere All at Once]. That seemed like it was a fun set. I’d love to work with them. But I don’t go to sleep at night thinking about who I want to work with. I’ve been fortunate enough just to roll into things.”
In the meantime, Mihok has his own projects in the works — and not just on the film and TV front. “I’ve been writing. I have a ton to pitch, and I’m working on this amazing graphic novel,” he said. “I’m still friends with Leonardo [DiCaprio], and we’re working on this project called Last Man Standing, which is about a bounty killer […] But to be honest, I’m finally going to drop an album that I should have dropped about six years ago, in April. So I’m focusing on the music too […] It’s called Love & Loss. On April 20, it’s coming out on all platforms.”
From eOne, Limelight, Morning Moon, and Hunting Lane Films, Wildflower is in theaters from Momentum Pictures, and is now available on-demand and on digital platforms.
