Denzel Washington is making any action lovers very happy as he confirmed that he will return for two more The Equalizer movies. The Oscar-winner is currently starring in Ridley Scott’s epic sequel Gladiator II, and has seemingly been cast in the yet-to-be-announced Black Panther 3, but that apparently doesn’t mean he will be too busy to bring Robert McCall back to cinemas. In the latest edition of Esquire, Washington said:
“I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five. More people are happy about that—people love those daggone Equalizers, but I’ve come to realize that the Equalizer films are for me, too, because they’re for the people. They want me to go get the bad guys. ‘We can’t get them, so you go get them.’ And I say, Okay, I’ll get them! Just wait right there. I’ll be right back!”
Many fans believed that Washington’s third outing as the justice-delivering McCall in 2023 would be his last, but those fears are clearly unfounded. The movie ends with McCall and seemingly settling back in for a life of rest and relaxation, but we all know that it only takes one bad guy to come looking for him and the whole thing blows up again.
As Washington is the first to even mention that there are more Equalizer movies on the way, there are no other details currently available. However, it is likely that Fuqua will be returning to helm the movies, which could end up filming back-to-back if they have both been green-lit as the actor has suggested.
Denzel Washington is Joining the MCU
Returning as Robert McCall will be a tough ask, as the new movies will have to go some way to top the 94% audience score The Equalizer 3 received. However, the franchise has been incredibly popular, with his original outing recently being a success on streaming as it hit its 10th anniversary.
Recently, Washington made the shocking revelation that he will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While there are many actors of Washington’s caliber that would never step foot in a superhero franchise, it appears he has been drawn in by the next sequel in the Black Panther franchise. He said of the unannounced casting:
“Ryan talked to me about it. I said, ‘Whatever it is, I love you. Go do it, and I’ll read it.'”

This forgotten Denzel Washington movie might actually be worth a second look after its dismal debut.
Marvel Studios have yet to announce Black Panther 3, so it seems that Washington may have jumped the gun a little with the reveal. He went on to explain that Ryan Coogler is still working on a script for the movie, adding:
“I don’t even know what it is yet. He just said he was gonna write something. I guess I didn’t ask for permission. But he came to me.”
It seems that Washington is certainly going to have plenty on his slate in the next few years, and although he seems to be breaking the first rule of Hollywood in announcing these movies before they have been officially revealed to even be in development, there is no one that is going to be disappointed to know that there are more of these crowd-pleasing favorites heading down the line.
