Rachel Zegler becomes a princess in the first official image of the live-action remake of Disney‘s first feature film ever, Snow White, as the studio announces a major delay for it. The Mouse House has already brought a long list of animated classics back to the big screen with new versions, and soon it was going to be the turn of one of its most iconic titles to have its live-action adaptation. Unfortunately, it seems that Snow White fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see Rachel Zegler playing the first Disney princess.
Variety confirms that the studio has decided to delay the movie starring Zegler and Gal Gadot for an entire year. Snow White was originally going to be released on March 22, 2024, but due to Disney’s most recent schedule change, it will now hit theaters on March 21, 2025.
Despite the bad news, there’s a silver lining for those waiting on the film since the first official look at the live-action remake of Snow White has surfaced online, and it looks pretty similar to the animated version (courtesy of Discussing Film):

Joining Zegler and Gadot, who will be playing the Evil Queen, are Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, Martin Klebba as Grumpy, Andrew Burnap as a new character named Jonathan, and Colin Michael. Snow White is directed by Marc Webb, and the screenplay was written by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.

Although the first image of the film seems to remain very faithful to the 1937 animated version, more than 85 years have passed since Disney first brought the Brothers Grimm story to the big screen. Therefore, as has already happened with Cinderella or, more recently, with The Little Mermaid, the studio not only seeks to revive the magic of those movies that turned them into the biggest franchise in the world of entertainment, but they also try to give a modern twist to stories that they feel have been left far from the new generations.
Snow White focuses on a young woman who, after losing her father, is left alone in the world with her stepmother, an ambitious and dark person who cannot stand that Snow White is the most beautiful woman in the kingdom. Therefore, she requests a hunter to kill the young lady and bring her heart as proof. The man, regretting having accepted the task, asks Snow White to escape through the forest and not return and brings the Queen the heart of a deer instead.
In the woods, Snow White forms a friendship with seven dwarves, with whom she lives while she takes refuge. When the Queen discovers the truth, she disguises herself as an old lady and brings a poisoned apple to Snow White, plunging her into a deep sleep from which she can only be awakened with a kiss, which a prince gives her and ends up saving her.
Some of these elements, however, such as the Seven Dwarfs or Snow White’s relationship with the prince, would be some of the things that the new version would modify to present a modern adaptation of the story.
