The MCU is preparing to aim at a much more mature public and leave behind projects that speak exclusively to ATP or PG-13 audiences. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 takes the first step towards that future with the first ever F-Bomb in the franchise…even though it wasn’t actually planned.
With the newest adventure of the team of misfits just around the corner, James Gunn and the cast are promoting the movie around the world, preparing fans for an emotional and full-of-heart adventure, as the first reactions have described it. Even though it might be the last chapter, the movie is set to include a first-timer for the franchise. No, it’s not Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock.
While interacting with fans in social media, James Gunn confirmed that the film includes the first ever F-Bomb within the MCU, something that it wasn’t even planned, as he asked Chris Pratt to say the word directly on set:
Of course, the inclusion of an F-Word it’s not new for PG-13 movies, but when it comes to Marvel and to any Disney related franchise, audience susceptibility is very important for the company and something that will always be considered in their movies. With the arrival of Disney+, Marvel Studios has been given a lot of freedom when it comes to building stories for a wider audience. Projects like Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night have proven that more mature stories can succeed as much as any other. But now Marvel Studios is ready to go even further.
Next year, Ryan Reynolds is set to return as the Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 3, accompanied by Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, two characters that have no restriction when it comes to language or violence. The inclusion of 20th Century Fox characters will definitely bring a new way of telling stories, and F-words will be a part of it.
Fans have been worried about the arrival of Fox characters and more mature characters like Deadpool or Blade to the MCU. Fortunately, Kevin Feige has made it clear that the tone of these stories won’t change.
Another incoming character with a more mature background on screen is Daredevil, who was officially introduced in She-Hulk in a much more comedic way than in his Netflix series. Charlie Cox has stated that although Daredevil: Born Again will be violent and aimed at the same audience as his original Daredevil appearances, exactly how far the new 18-part series will push boundaries is something that is yet to be seen.
