Halloween Ends’ Four Year Time Jump Will Not Be Explained

Halloween Ends’ Four Year Time Jump Will Not Be Explained

Halloween Ends is about to bring the story of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode to a new and final conclusion, but fans shouldn’t go into the movie thinking it will be a direct continuation of Halloween Kills. The final film in David Gordon Green’s trilogy will begin four years after the events of Halloween Kills, but will not spend time explaining anything about where Michael has been during the missing years.

Halloween Ends is a new ending for the William Shatner-masked killer and his arch-nemesis Laurie Strode, which brings to a close the new timeline set in motion by 2018’s Halloween. Picking up where John Carpenter’s original movie ended, Green’s new trilogy ignored the events of all of Halloween’s many sequels and created a new timeline in which Laurie and Michael are not related, and where the killer was caught and imprisoned for 40 years before escaping again to set out on another rampage in Haddonfield. Now Green has revealed that he had no interest in dwelling on where Michael has been during the time jump, telling Total Film:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“We don’t really explain that. It’s like: I don’t want to see where Jaws goes to sleep at night when I’m watching a shark movie … I want to see him when he pops up, and he’s got an appetite!”

Of course, many long-running horror franchises have had similar time jumps, and as Green says, no one really cares what the killer gets up to when they are not killing. For that reason, there probably won’t be anyone losing sleep over what happened during the four years between Halloween Ends and Halloween Kills.

Halloween Ends Will Be Jamie Lee Curtis’ Final Time As Laurie Strode

Jamie Lee Curtis became one of the most iconic “final girls” in the horror genre when she played Strode for the first time back in 1978. Since then, she reprised her role in Halloween: H20 and its sequel, Halloween Resurrection, and also played up to her horror icon role in the TV comedy series Scream Queens in 2015. However, her return as Strode in 2018’s Halloween gave the character new lease of life by effectively resetting her story. When completing filming, Curtis shared her “bittersweet” feelings. She said:

“Bittersweet END for me on the Halloween movies. I’ve made great friends and have collaborated with wonderful artists on these three movies and today my part in the film has been completed and with it the END for me of this trilogy. It’s all because of the fans who have always supported me and more importantly, Laurie, and the creative teams at BLUMHOUSE, TRANCAS, MIRAMAX, ROUGHHOUSE, and UNIVERSAL and my Strode Strong women, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak and Kyle Richards as well as my nemesis, James Jude Courtney.”

Halloween Ends may be the last time we will see Laurie Stode, but don’t expect it to be the final outing for Michael Myers. Having been an iconic horror mainstay for over 40 years, it will only be a matter of time before he is slicing and dicing his way through a new group of characters once more.

Halloween Ends comes to movie theaters and Peacock on October 14.
