Heal Filmmaker Adam Schomer Announces Selling Superman Kickstarter

From filmmaker Adam Schomer and i2i Production, the team behind Women of the White Buffalo (2022), the docuseries about a heart-pounding and spirit-driven quest to find freedom on motorcycles in the Himalayas, The Road to Dharma (2020), and the #1 iTunes bestseller Heal (2017), comes a Kickstarter for his latest documentary, Selling Superman, which follows his friend as contemplates selling his father’s prized comic book collection. The collection includes one of the most valuable comics of all time: Superman #1, with a comic grade of 7.0, valued at over $3.5 million.

“A hidden comic collection of over 300,000 books was kept a family secret for 40 years,” reads the Kickstarter campaign page for Selling Superman. “Darren’s father Dale was an obsessive genius. His obsession — the comic collection — was fueled by his Asperger’s (ASD), and it progressively overtook the home, put strain on his marriage, and it continues to bruise his family, even after his passing. Darren is now left with the collection, which includes the prized possession of his father: Superman #1 (7.0). Valued at over $3.5 million, it is one of the most valuable comic books of all time.”

In Selling Superman, Schomer will use the incredibly powerful and popular comic-collecting world to explore a story of discovery, healing, and neuro-divergence. The documentary, which is already filming on-site across the United States, follows Schomer’s friend Darren as he contemplates selling his father’s prized possession, picking up the pieces of his childhood, and rewriting a family legacy.

Selling Superman Needs Funds for Post-Production

i2i Production

Per the campaign page, Schomer anticipates that the documentary will finish filming by March 2023, with distribution for mid-2024. Because Darren’s collection is absolutely separate from the film financing and from i2i Productions, the Kickstarter page also notes what the additional funds will be used for, saying:

We’ve already raised funds that have taken us halfway through the filming phase (production), and this campaign is meant to take us through the completion of filming. That’s why we’ve set our first goal of $125,000 – but when we reach this, we’ll look to aim to $250,000 and beyond.

We want to ensure we honor the superhero comic community with a high level of animation and graphics that thread through our story. We have an ambitious production, post-production, festival strategy, and distribution strategy for this film, and we’re hoping our support here will inspire investors and producers to come in and match, meet, or raise our final budget needs.
