Man of Steel star Henry Cavill’s return to the DCU is underway, and he couldn’t be happier to be back in the role.

Henry Cavill’s Superman return went from unconfirmed rumor to DCU selling point in just over a week, and with Black Adam’s big secret out in the open it hasn’t taken the Man of Steel star long to start discussing his franchise future. Although Superman has featured in a number of DC projects such as Peacemaker, he has always been in the shadows or just out of shot, meaning that Cavill has not been “seen” as Superman since Justice League, discounting Zack Snyder’s cut of that movie which was released in 2021. Now though, his return to the franchise is set to be one of the main focuses of the DCU going forward, and Cavill calls it one of the “top moments” of his entire career.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Cavill recently talked about how he had to find a spot in his hectic schedule shooting The Witcher to be able to film his new scenes for Black Adam, and reportedly for The Flash, but it seems that working out the finer details has been completely worth it for the actor. He told the Happy Sad Confused podcast:
“It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn’t too sure how it’s going to feel, whether it’s going to be ‘cool, back in the suit;’ or whether it was going to be something which was very emotionally connective because I put the Man of Steel suit back on. I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit, and it was incredibly important to me to just be standing and enjoying that moment. Yeah, that is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again.”

How Will Superman Fit Into the DCU Plan?
Warner Bros. Pictures
Following the events of Justice League, Superman faded away into the background of what was then the DCEU, with no clear sight of when or if Cavill’s version of the character would return. Recent reports have suggested that former DC Films president Walter Hamada had previously blocked the return of Cavill, but with a new regime in charge it looks like Cavill’s Superman, who is referred to by many as the definitive iteration of the hero, will be central to the next several years of the DCU’s storytelling.
Cavill is reported to have filmed new scenes to be included in The Flash, although how he will fit into that story is not yet known. Having been drawn into the orbit of Black Adam, it could be that Superman goes looking to reunite the scattered Justice League members to help him contain the newly emerged anti-hero. What is certain is that the two DC powerhouses will meet and will fight, but not for some time as it seems that the face-off between Black Adam and Superman is going to build up over a number of years. Black Adam has made a good initial impact on the box office, and that could bode well for the future of the DCU after a number of years struggling to find its feet.
