Idris Elba Joins Extraction 2 in New Clip From Netflix Action Sequel

The latest look at the upcoming Netflix action sequel, Extraction 2, reveals that Chris Hemsworth will be reunited with his fellow MCU star and Thor actor, Idris Elba. Revealed in a new clip courtesy of Netflix, Elba joins the follow-up as the mysterious Man in the Suit, who emerges from the shadows to offer Hemsworth’s action hero his next seemingly impossible mission. “Rake, that’s such a fun name to say,” Elba says with a wry smile in the footage, with the Luther star clearly bringing the same cool and suave demeanor to the Man in the Suit that he achieves so effortlessly. Details regarding the extent of Elba’s role in Extraction 2 remain unknown, but considering that director Sam Hargrave, the Russo brothers, and Chris Hemsworth have plans to build a major action franchise off the back of Extraction, the addition of Elba is certainly an exciting one and offers up a lot of possibilities.

Aside from revealing Elba’s inclusion, the footage also teases an explosive action set piece. And one that has been filmed in the “oner” style that served the first outing so well, as Hemworth’s Tyler Rake attempts to evade multiple villains and protect another child from capture. Stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave has teased “the craziest oner in cinema history” in Extraction 2, which involves literally setting leading man Hemsworth on fire. “I don’t know a lot of people, let alone Hollywood A-listers, who are gonna let you light them on fire while on camera,” Hargrave said of the sequence.

Extraction 2 Lands on Netflix Next Week

Released back in 2020, the first Extraction introduces Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth as former SASR operator turned black ops mercenary, Tyler Rake, a man with nothing to lose who is given a chance at redemption when he is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. Much like its central hero, Extraction proved to be pretty formidable, quickly becoming a major hit for Netflix and fighting its way to the top of the viewership ranks as the most-watched original film in Netflix history at the time.

Based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, Extraction 2 picks up with Hemsworth’s unstoppable action hero Tyler Rake after being presumed dead in the first movie. The sequel sees Rake return to what he does best – taking on seemingly impossible missions to rescue someone – and is tasked this time around with another deadly mission: saving the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

Extraction 2 finds Hemsworth teaming up once again with director Sam Hargrave alongside producers Joe and Anthony Russo, and with Joe Russo having returned to pen the script. The cast includes Golshifteh Farahani, who reprises her role from the first Extraction, with the likes of Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Tinatin Dalakishvili, Andro Jafaridze, Daniel Bernhardt, Tornike Gogrichiani, Levan Saginashvili, George Lasha, and now Idris Elba also set to feature alongside Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake.

Extraction 2 is scheduled to be released by Netflix on June 16, 2023.
