In addition, the Clerks filmmaker also talks about the other films that he has planned.
Kevin Smith has announced that the long-talked-about Moose Jaws will be among his next several films. The movie is exactly what it sounds like based on the title. Jaws, but with a moose. The news came during a GalaxyCon Q&A, among a slew of other announcements for his future release schedule. According to Smith, Moose Jaws will finally be able to happen thanks to the people at Lionsgate, who he’d teamed with
“‘We sold so many copies of Jay & Silent Bob Reboot on DVD and Blu-ray that if you have any more of this Jay and Silent Bob bullshit and you can make it for under eight million dollars, we’ll totally do it.’ And I was like, ‘I am filled with nothing but Jay and Silent Bob bullshit!'”
In addition to the aforementioned Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, Lionsgate also teamed with Smith for the recently released Clerks III. Both films mark Smith’s return to the View Askewniverse, which began with the original Clerks and was previously supposed to end with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“They were like, ‘Well, like what?’ And I said, ‘I’ve got this movie Clerks III that they’re in,’ they’re like, ‘Okay, what else?’ ‘I got this movie called Moose Jaws,’ and they were like, ‘What’s Moose Jaws?’ And I was like, ‘Moose Jaws is like Jaws but with a Moose instead of a shark.’ And they said, ‘What’s the budget on that?’ I was like, ‘About three million bucks,’ they’re like, ‘We’ll make four of them.’ So it looks like Moose Jaws is finally gonna happen.”
What’s Come Before and After
Moose Jaws is intended to be the final installment of his True North trilogy, so named because each installment primarily takes place within Canada. It all started with Tusk, which is about a podcaster named Wallace Bryton (Justin Long) who gets turned into a human walrus by Howard Howe (Michael Parks). Yoga Hosers, the 2016 second installment, is about the two Canadian store clerks from the previous film, Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith), who get into a battle against an army of Bratzis. Bratwurst Nazis.
Interestingly enough, the True North trilogy might become tetralogy. Back in 2020, the elder Smith revealed during a Twitch stream that he had an idea for a sequel to Tusk. In it, Wallace breaks free of his walrus-altered body, only to become the new villain of the film. He would go on to torture people in the exact same manner that he was tortured in the previous film.
Unfortunately for those who have been looking forward to the long-awaited Moose Jaws, Smith has two more films on his slate to make first. Twilight of the Mallrats, which is a sequel to his second feature film, and The 4:40 Movie, a new original product. In addition, Smith also has another Jay and Silent Bob movie planned in addition to a sequel to Red State, which also starred the late Parks.
