Leslie Jones is keeping her fingers crossed for a superb villain role to come her way. Jones, who broke out on Saturday Night Live before appearing in films like Ghostbusters: Answer the Call and hosting her own Supermarket Sweep reboot series, is best known for her comedy work. And perhaps the time has come for her to try something different.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jones touched on where she’d like to go next with her acting career. She first shared a story from her childhood about getting cast as the witch in a school production of Hansel and Gretel. At first, Jones was not happy with the casting, but she wound up embracing her role as the villain with the support of her mother. As Jones explains:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“Everybody voted me to be The Witch. I was devastated. I ran all the way home crying. I ran in the house and I was like, ‘Mom, they want me to be the witch. It’s so mean.’ And my mom was like, ‘What? They want you to be the witch?’ And I’m thinking she’s about to go off. And she goes, ‘Are you kidding me? That’s literally the best role. It’s like Hansel, Gretel, Witch. You’re literally the main cast.’ She lost it. She was running around the house, like, ‘I’m going to make your costume!’ She made my costume. We rehearsed. She was like, ‘You’re going to be the best witch.’ And I literally won best character for the parade.”
Thinking back upon how she took to playing a wicked witch so well, Jones feels that she’d like to try her hand at playing other villainous characters. Given her interest in psychology, she feels she could do a great job playing a serial killer, and she also makes it clear that she’d rather play a supervillain than a superhero if she were to get involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I always think about that, because I want to play a villain. That would be great, to play a villain. Like, if I had to do some Marvel stuff, I would want to be the bad person, or a serial killer. I would play the sh*t out of [a serial killer]. That was my major in college, criminal justice. I want to play those types of things, that evoke emotion, stuff that you’re not going to regularly see from me.”

Leslie Jones Wants to Play a Villain in the SnyderVerse
When Zack Snyder’s Justice League premiered on HBO Max, Leslie Jones was watching and live-tweeting her thoughts on the feature. Snyder had given her a nod on Twitter to thank her for the support, telling Jones, “I bow to you, my queen.” Jones later said on Jimmy Kimmel Live that the nod was great, but what would be better would be for Snyder to cast her as a villain in his next superhero movie, should the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse campaign turn out to be successful.
“Yes, it is [cool], and it’s going to be even cooler when he put me in the next one. I better be in the next one! I live-tweeted for four hours, I damn well better be the star of the next one! I want to be a villain, and I want to be the worst villain. I want to be the villain that people are like, ‘Somebody kill this b*tch.’ I mean, my knees ain’t good, but, you know, as long as we get a stunt double, we good.”
For now, Jones can be seen in the HBO Max series Our Flag Means Death which was just renewed for a second season.
