Marvel actor Anthony Mackie will be listening to Tupac in preparation for his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America 4. Speaking with Variety while attending the 2022 Grammy Awards, Mackie revealed that he chooses a specific song for every character he plays. He will be using a particular track by Tupac to get back into the mindset of MCU hero Sam Wilson.
“Music is a part of my life. Every role that I play, I pick a song to represent that character, and I pick a piece of art to represent that character. So music has always been kind of the defining factor of my life and my career.”
When asked which song he will be listening to when he suits up in the red, white, and blue of Captain America for the upcoming sequel, Mackie revealed that it would be a track by rap legend Tupac Shakur.
“I cant say it on camera, but it’s a Tupac song. And it starts off, ‘First off, dot dot dot dot dot dot…'”
While Mackie plays it coy regarding the name of the song, our crack team of investigators has advised us that it is likely the actor will be blaring Tupac Shakur’s 1996 single “Hit ‘Em Up” when slipping back into the wings and wielding the iconic shield. A diss song featuring the Outlawz, the song is aimed at East Coast rappers, and more specifically Notorious B.I.G., and while it is highly unlikely to include any clues as to the direction of Captain America 4, it is certainly interesting to know the kind of mindset that Anthony Mackie will be in when he picks up his superhero duties once again.

Captain America 4 Will Follow on From Disney+ Series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Marvel Studios/Disney
The finale of Marvel’s Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, saw Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson AKA The Falcon emerge as the new Captain America. Sporting his own version of the costume, as well as both the wings of The Falcon and the shield of Cap, the character follows in the footsteps of his comic book counterpart, who too takes over as Captain America following the retirement of Steve Rogers.
Details of Captain America 4 remain a mystery at this time, but Marvel producer Nate Moore has since provided some insight into where the movie will find Wilson, comparing the new Captain America to the legendary underdog Rocky Balboa.
“I think, he’s not Steve Rogers and I think that’s a good thing,” Moore explained. “Because to me, this new Cap is Rocky. He’s going to be the underdog in any situation. He’s not a Super Soldier. He’s not a hundred years old. He doesn’t have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, ‘I’m the new Captain America.’ What happens next? I think is fascinating because he’s a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy.”
Captain America 4 does not yet have a release date.
