Regal Cinemas Unveils ‘Nosferatu’ Sarcophagus Popcorn Collectible

In exactly one month’s time, we’ll be able to finally see Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu in theaters, and to go along with the vampire flick, Regal Cinemas has unveiled the spectacular custom popcorn bucket that’s sure to please many fans of the macabre. Set to open on Christmas Day, the film is a retelling of the 1922 German original, and features Bill Skarsgård in the role of Count Orlok, with Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp portraying married couple Thomas and Ellen Hunter.

Posting on X earlier today (seen below), Regal gave fans a glimpse of what they can expect come December, and did not disappoint. The Nosferatu Sarcophagus Popcorn Collectible is everything we wanted it to be, and more. The receptacle is a replica of Orlok’s coffin seen in the movie, and appears big enough to hold a fair amount of popcorn. There’s no word yet on the cost of the elaborate container, but based on what we’ve seen from other popcorn holders, you can probably expect to pay in the $29 – $35 dollar range. The reveal coincides with pre-sale tickets being made available today for the Dec. 25 premiere, which – based on the synopsis from Focus Features and early reactions – promises to be one of the best horror movies of the year.

Robert Eggers’
Nosferatu
is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.

‘Nosferatu’ Takes Its Cues from Folklore

While vampires these days have largely been portrayed as sexy, brooding creatures that sometimes sparkle (thanks, Twilight), you won’t find any of that in Eggers’ version of Nosferatu, which aims to take things back to folk tales of old that first inspired the vampire. Early European versions of the undead beings were far from the cape-wearing, castle-owning aristocrats made famous by Bram Stoker, and instead were depicted as bloated, ghastly creatures shrouded in mystery.

Robert Eggers definitely isn’t bringing sexy back with his new vampiric horror, Nosferatu.

While Eggers’ vampire won’t take things back that far, he did recently tell Vanity Fair that he relied more on folklore than Hollywood when it came to his creature design. Yes, he’s a “dead Transylvanian nobleman,” but that’s where the similarities to modern day vampires end.

“This Orlok is more of a folk vampire than any other film version. That means he’s a dead person. And he’s not like, ‘I look great and I’m dead.’ Folk vampires in some ways are more visually similar to zombies […] The reason why he looks the way he looks, and he dresses the way he’s dressed is because for the first time in a Dracula or Nosferatu story, this guy looks like a dead Transylvanian nobleman. Every single thing he’s wearing down to the heels on his shoes is what he would’ve worn. That’s never been done.”

Trailers have yet to reveal what Skarsgård’s Count Orlok looks like, so we’ll have to wait until Dec. 25 for the full reveal. At least we know we can enjoy our popcorn from of a creepy sarcophagus, though, and really, that’s half the fun right there.

Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 silent film of the same name from director F. W. Murnau. Robert Eggers is crafting his own version of the story for the reboot as writer and director, with Bill Skarsgård stepping into the shoes of Count Orlok. Nosferatu tells the tale of a young woman who falls victim to a vampire utterly infatuated with her.
