Quentin Tarantino‘s 10-movie filmography has become one of Hollywood’s most enduring modern legends, and Ridley Scott thinks this self-imposed retirement plan is pure “bullsh*t.”
Tarantino is currently hard at work on his 10th (and reportedly final) movie. The project was initially announced as The Movie Critic, and would have starred Brad Pitt. However, it was recently confirmed that Tarantino is re-working the idea, and the new project is once again a complete mystery. While Tarantino seems set on only directing 10 films, one Hollywood legend who isn’t so certain is Ridley Scott, who will apparently outlive us all and make movies until the day he dies.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter to promote Gladiator II, Scott, who’s become increasingly active in his later years (he’s currently 86, and still directing major tentpole films) was asked about Tarantino’s mythical plan. “I don’t believe it,” was Scott’s blunt and honest response. The director is known for tackling questions head on and giving short but truthful responses. When pressed for more, he doubled down, saying:
“Exactly. I don’t f*cking believe that bullsh*t.
Shut up and go make another movie.

The filmmaker behind Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds loves Joker: Folie à Deux, but he won’t give these recent must-sees the time of day.
While Tarantino’s fans desperately want him to make more, the director himself has been working towards a 10th and final film for over a decade. Tarantino might be retiring from directing when his 10th movie is eventually released sometime in the next century, but he’s not giving up filmmaking altogether.
Longtime fans of the director are already aware of his connection to Ridley Scott. Tarantino penned the screenplay for True Romance, which was directed by Ridley’s late brother, Tony Scott. The surviving Scott commented on the relationship, simply saying:
“Quentin wrote a few things for my brother. They got along great. I’m not sure I’ve met him.”
What Is Happening With Quentin Tarantino’s 10th Film?
The Movie Critic, or whatever Tarantino’s 10th film will be, is one of Hollywood’s great prevailing mysteries. As always, the internet is filled with rumors and speculation about the film. Some reports suggestedThe Movie Critic would have been a meta analysis of Tarantino’s entire career, while others “leaked” that the film would have finally paired Tarantino with Tom Cruise, or, that it would have tied all of Tarantino’s films neatly into one shared universe (in which they’re technically already set).
Whatever the internet is saying about Tarantino’s 10th film, the director isn’t getting involved. In August, Tarantino addressed the multitude of rumors about the project, criticizing how they get picked up by the media as absolute fact, and why he won’t be confirming or denying anything. Tarantino said:
“My point being, though, is they write it in, you know, ‘Showbiz Daily’ or something, and then that gets picked up in 140 [other] pieces.
I’m not shutting that down – because I’m not all connected – then that’s just reported as if it’s true: and it is true for a couple of weeks, because no one knows anything better, because I’m not filling them in.”
