Scream 6 Adds Avatar, She-Hulk Actors to Growing Cast

Production will soon begin on the sixth installment of the Scream franchise, and the film’s cast list is continuing to expand

Paramount Pictures

2022’s Scream was a return to form for the blood-soaked slasher series, paying homage to the franchise’s legacy actors while making exciting new additions to ensure a bright future. Despite being released in the middle of January, Scream was able to make nearly $140 million worldwide, a significant improvement from the performance of Scream 4 ($95M). Paramount quickly greenlit a follow-up, which is set to be released on March 31, 2023. Casting announcements have slowly but surely been trickling out over the last few months, and Deadline is reporting four new additions that will be joining the Scream franchise.

Jack Champion, Josh Segarra, Liana Liberato, and Devyn Nekoda will all reportedly be part of the sixth Scream film, which is set to begin production this summer. The quartet joins returning actors from the fifth installment Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding, and the cast will also include Hayden Panettiere reprising her Scream 4 role as Kirby Reed. Courteney Cox recently confirmed that she will be back for Scream 6, but she will be the lone representative of the original Scream film. David Arquette’s Dewey was killed off in Scream, and Neve Campbell will not be returning as Sidney Prescott following a contract dispute.

Looking at the new additions, Segarra is perhaps the best known of the four based on his villainous role in season five of The CW’s Arrow, but other television appearances include Chicago P.D., Orange Is the New Black, and FBI. Segarra will be joining the MCU later this summer in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, however, no details are known about the character he’s playing. After making small appearances in a handful of different films and series, Champion will be heading to Pandora in December as part of Avatar: The Way of Water for his biggest role to date. Liberato has been part of ABC’s A Million Little Things and Hulu’s Light as a Feather, while Nekoda can most recently be seen in Sneakerella on Disney+. Joining the Scream franchise is a massive opportunity for all four actors, and the film has the chance to launch each one to bigger and better things.

Scream 6 Will Feature a More Brutal Ghostface Killer

Paramount Pictures Studios

Plot details aren’t widely known for Scream 6, but it has been revealed that the four survivors of 2022’s Scream will be leaving Woodsboro for a fresh start in New York City. Obviously, that new beginning won’t be very pleasant as a new Ghostface killer will be emerging to terrorize the teens and everyone around them. Jenna Ortega said in a recent interview that Scream 6 will be getting “more and more gory,” and that the newest iteration of Ghostface is “the most aggressive and violent version” there’s ever been. Along with a change in scenery, it sounds like Scream will be heading in a much more brutal direction as the franchise continues to reinvent itself for modern-day horror fans.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence will be back to direct the new installment, which is having its script written by Gary Busick and James Vanderbilt. Having the same creative team from the widely well-regarded soft reboot of the Scream franchise certainly bodes well for the quality of Scream 6.
