Shazam! Fury of the Gods Director Reveals Superman and Batman Were Considered for Cameos

DC Studios’ Shazam! Fury of the Gods has recently been released, and it seems that the sequel almost had some major cameos. Director David F. Sandberg recently revealed that both Superman and Batman were considered for an appearance in the film. The film follows Billy Batson, played by Asher Angel, and his superhero alter-ego, Shazam, portrayed by Zachary Levi, as they team up with their family of five siblings to fight their enemies. Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, also makes an appearance in the film.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Sandberg revealed that he initially considered having a scene where the superheroes are seen on a news report, trying to get into the dome that surrounds the film’s setting. However, the idea was eventually dropped as it would have complicated the story and raised too many questions about their presence. The focus of the film was on Shazam and his family of siblings, and introducing more characters would have taken away from their story. He also mentioned that the force field dome was inspired by The Simpsons.

“Yeah. I mean, we get around it a little bit because we have a big dome surrounding, a big force field dome surrounding. Stole that from The Simpsons,” Sandberg told us. “No, but I did early on think like we should have a scene, at least on a news report or something, where you can see from far away something like Superman trying to get in or Batman standing outside, pounding the dome or something. That was dropped pretty quickly, because that also opens up a whole nother can of worms because then you really start thinking about it. Well, yeah, clearly they are here, so what’s going on?”

Zachary Levi Hopes to Reprise Role in Future DC Universe Films

Zachary Levi has expressed his hope of continuing his role in the DC Universe. The DC Universe is undergoing a massive change under the guidance of co-bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are working hard to rehabilitate the franchise. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of several films in the upcoming years, including Superman Legacy which is set for release on July 11, 2025, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, television series for Green Lantern titled Lanterns, and a Wonder Woman prequel titled Paradise Island.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Levi revealed that his responsibility is to show up and be the best Shazam he can be, and he takes that responsibility seriously. He also stated that he’s very happy with the latest Shazam movie and hopes it’s not his last.

“My responsibility is just to show up and be the best Shazam that I can be, and I take that very seriously. I’ve known Peter for years, and James even longer, and I think they’re going to be really great leaders. I think James is a very talented visionary person and so I’m looking forward to whatever that holds. I’m very happy with this movie. I hope it’s not my last.”
