Steven Spielberg’s Film The Fabelmans Receives Cinematic Honor by Being Released in Theaters in India

The Golden Globes-winning drama, The Fabelmans, is slated to be released in theaters in India.

Universal Pictures

Steven Spielberg‘s coming-of-age drama film, The Fabelmans, has recently received a new honor. Viewers will recall that the famed director and drama received the awards for best director and best picture drama at this year’s Golden Globes ceremony. But now, according to a Variety report, the film is getting the red-carpet treatment in India. On Feb. 10 in India, Reliance Entertainment will release Steven Spielberg’s potential Oscar-nominated drama The Fabelmans in theaters. This is quite a feat for movie releases, as most American-produced films shown in Indian theaters usually are blockbuster hits with foreign translations. Critically acclaimed dramas such as The Fabelmans shown in India are rare, and when the film is released in February, it will be shown in its original language.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

For those unfamiliar with the premise, The Fabelmans is set in the mid-20th century during post-World War II. The drama tells the story of an average Jewish family residing in different parts of the country. The clash between one’s artistic desire and filial responsibility, secrecy, and deceit, in addition to the hidden depths of creative expression and contentment, is at the heart of Steven Spielberg’s gripping film centered around this complex family. Michelle Williams plays a retired concert pianist named Mitzi, who has taken a reluctant setback from the spotlight to raise her family. She works part-time, teaching students how to play the piano. Mitzi’s husband, Burt, is played by Paul Dano. Burt is a genius who is gainfully employed in the IT industry.

In his spare time, Burt delights in capturing his family on film. The family’s lives are upended on one fateful night when the pair takes their son Sammy, played by Mateo Zoryon Francis-DeFord, to see “The Greatest Show On Earth.” Sammy comes away from the film enthralled, particularly with the film’s depictions of trains. To recreate the train sequences he observed on the big screen, Mitzi encourages Sammy to take up his father’s filmmaking hobby, much to the chagrin of Burt, who feels their son’s time and talents are better spent elsewhere. But, to the family’s amazement, Sammy takes to filmmaking like a duck to water and captures beautiful moments on film. Later in the movie, the family moves to California to foster Sammy’s talent.

Steven Spielberg Gets a Record 13th Directors Guild Award Nomination

20th Century Studios

In a recent report by the New York Times, famed director Steven Spielberg received his record-breaking 13th Best film Director nomination for The Fabelmans at the Directors Guild Awards.

However, the list, which contained an entirely male selection, left out a few notable directors. Some names include Baz Luhrmann, who recently released the Golden Globe-winning film Elvis. In addition, legendary director James Cameron didn’t receive a nomination, despite the game-changing movie Avatar: The Way of Water recently releasing. Other notable omitted names include Gina Prince-Bythewood and Sarah Polley.
