The Batman Magazine Covers Reveal New Looks at Batman and Catwoman

Another tease for The Batman has come in by way of the newest covers for Empire Magazine. The new issue has two exclusive covers, one featuring Robert Pattinson’s Batman with a red tint while another showcases Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman with a blue glow. Set to hit newsstands on Dec. 23, the issue serves as the 2022 Preview issue for Empire, and as one of the most anticipated releases of the year, it’s no surprise to see The Batman make the cover.

There was a lot of concern from fans, perhaps those who knew Robert Pattinson best from his role as the vampire Edward in Twilight, when the actor was first announced to play Bruce Wayne in The Batman. Others felt right away that it was a solid casting choice based on the actor’s subsequent performances in more dramatic roles. After the teaser trailers and sneak peek images were released showcasing the new Batman, most everyone seemed to take to Pattinson’s Dark Knight rather well. The Batman has since become one of the next year’s most highly anticipated movie releases.

Zoe Kravitz also seems to be an excellent pick for Selina Kyle, the cat burglar also known as Catwoman in Gotham City. Previously speaking about her casting, per AnotherMag.com, Kravitz said, “My agent called me and was like, ‘They’re making a Batman movie and there’s a Catwoman role. You’re on the list of actors they are looking at.’ I think the first thing that happened was I went to LA and met with Matt Reeves, the director, who also wrote the script, and just talked to him.”

“It was important to give him an idea of what it’s really like to work with me,” she added. “To say what I really think and, if we’re on set together, to ask the questions I want to ask. I tried to come at it from the angle where I am showing him what I see and feel about this character. I believe that’s why it happened and I got the role. Matt’s a fantastic director, and he’s really into talking about the character. We had some really good conversations. I had some thoughts about the character once I’d read the script too and they were welcomed.”

The main villain of The Batman will be Paul Dano’s Riddler. In the sneak peeks, we’ve seen how the Riddler torments the Gotham Police Department along with Batman by leaving behind puzzles at the scenes of his grisly killings. Matt Reeves has suggested that this will be the “scariest” Batman movie yet, and that may be in part due to having a villain that so closely resembles the Zodiac Killer.

“This movie, I think, is probably the scariest Batman that’s been done,” Reeves told Total Film. “Because the idea of what Batman’s doing – it’s scary. Never been done in quite this way. It’s a detective story, it’s an action movie, and it’s a psychological thriller.”

Empire Magazine’s next issue with The Batman covers will go on sale on Dec. 23, 2021. As for The Batman, the anticipated feature will finally hit the big screen on March 4, 2022.
