The money keeps on rolling in for The Batman. After an impressive debut in theaters last weekend, which saw The Batman scoring the second-highest opening of the pandemic with a $128.5 million opening. This weekend has brought in another $66 million haul for the hit film from director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson, a number that’s still very high and far above the film in the second place spot.

Globally, The Batman is already nearing $500 million in ticket sales, far surpassing its $200 million budget. This is significant as only four films have been able to reach the half-billion dollar mark in the pandemic era, including Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.86 billion and counting), No Time to Die ($774 million), F9: The Fast Saga ($726 million), and Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($502 million).

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

All in all, these are very impressive numbers, especially given the long runtime of the film and the continued leeriness filmgoers have about going to the theater. As they’ve just proven, they’ll all come out for the right film. Spider-Man: No Way Home striking so well is due in part to the film being two decades in the making with established stars from previous Spider-Man films adding to the anticipation. The Batman was a standalone film with no ties to any other movie that’s been previously released, and it might have been seen as more of a risk by Warner Bros.

The Batman Flies High Above Uncharted at the Box Office

Warner Bros. Pictures

As for No. 2 this week in the U.S., that would be the video game adaptation Uncharted with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. That film garnered $9.2 million to bring in a total haul of $113 million domestically. In No. 3 was the BTS Permission to Dance on Stage: Seoul concert, which debuted with $6.8 million earned. The Channing Tatum canine buddy movie Dog fell to No. 4 with $5.3 million.

Leave it to Spider-Man: No Way Home to keep web-slinging its way along near the top of the box office. After months in the top 3, the film was knocked down to the No. 4 spot last week before landing in No. 5 for this weekend. The blockbuster film pulled in another $4 million to throw onto the pile, banking more than enough money to make Scrooge McDuck jealous. Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered in December and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield.
