Action superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has teased the brilliance of James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan’s role as DC superhero Doctor Fate in the upcoming comic book outing Black Adam. Taking to social media, Johnson teased the impending release of the first trailer for Black Adam, while sharing what he thinks of Brosnan’s work in the DC movie.
According to The Rock, Brosnan will be one to watch in Black Adam. “I think you’ll be happy with DR FATE, Pierce Brosnan is a force and really delivers,” the actor said of his co-star’s role in proceedings. Brosnan will join the pantheon of DC superheroes, and battle The Rock’s title character, as Kent Nelson AKA Doctor Fate.

A member of the JSA and the son of an archeologist who has learnt sorcery and been given the magical Helmet of Fate, Doctor Fate was created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Howard Sherman and first appeared in the comics all the way back in 1940. When his father is killed while looking for the tomb holding the ancient being known as Nabu, the being takes pity on Kent, taking him on as his apprentice and using his vast magical powers to teach him the ways of sorcery.
Doctor Fate is considered one of the most powerful wielders of magic in the DC universe, and possesses the powers of immortality and invulnerability, as well as being at the peak of mental and physical strength. Of course, he can also cast spells, all of which is sure to come in handy when coming face-to-face with The Rock’s awesome antihero.
Fans were elated when Pierce Brosnan’s involvement in Black Adam was announced, and it sounds like the actor has more than delivered — as has The Rock himself, according to Brosnan.
Black Adam Will Hit Theaters Later This Year
Warner Bros. Pictures
Black Adam will see Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam AKA Black Adam, an antihero from Kahndaq who is imprisoned for 5,000 years. After casting off the shackles of enslavement, Teth-Adam is chosen by the wizard Shazam to harness the powers of the ancient Egyptian Gods. S for the stamina of Shu, H for the swiftness of Horus, A for the strength of Amon, Z for the wisdom of Zehuti, A for the power of Aten, and M for the courage of Mehen, Black Adam goes on to become the archenemy of the superhero Shazam and his super-powered family.
Alongside Johnson’s title character, Black Adam will introduce audiences to the Justice Society of America. Brosnan’s Doctor Fate will be on the teams, where he will be backed up by Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. “You have a couple of seasoned veterans, like Hawkman and Doctor Fate, and you have a couple of newbies like Atom Smasher and Cyclone,” Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra said of introducing the superhero team. “And that chemistry and coming together to try to defeat someone who’s undefeatable like Black Adam, creates a lot of interesting situations without having the pressure to carry the whole movie. That’s a much more fresh way in.”
Black Adam is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 21, 2022.
