The Santa Clauses Teaser Sets Premiere Date for Tim Allen’s Festive Return

Disney has revealed their first teaser trailer for The Santa Clauses, an original series that continues the story of Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin, who first appeared in the 1994 movie The Santa Clause. Almost two decades since the third movie in the franchise was released, the wave of nostalgia that has washed over cinema and TV recently is bringing the beloved characters back one more time, and the teaser sets out its stall, revealing the main plot of the series which sees Calvin announcing his retirement from the role of Santa. Check out the trailer below:

The Santa Clauses will premiere on Disney+ with a double episode on November 16, and as the trailer shows will bring back a number of fan-favorite characters including Elizabeth Mitchell as Scott’s wife Carol/Mrs Claus, and David Krumholtz as Bernard The Elf. The new series will catch up with the Calvins as Scott decides “for the good of his family” that it is time for him to retire and find a new Santa Claus to take over his position. However, judging by the teaser, that is not going to be an easy task.

The Santa Clauses Will Be A Christmas Hit on Disney+

Disney+

The Santa Clause was a huge hit when it debuted in 1994 and introduced Tim Allen as the man who was chosen to become Santa Claus when he inadvertently killed his predecessor. After taking on the role after a fair amount of resistance, the story of Scott Calvin continued with The Santa Clause 2 in 2002, and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in 2006. The third movie didn’t fare well with critics and seemed to signal the end of the franchise, with no further sequels being discussed.

The arrival of Disney+ has since reignited a number of older IPs in order to provide new content for the platform. This has included a number of live-action adaptations of older Disney animations and new belated sequels such as Hocus Pocus 2, Pinocchio, and Willow. The Santa Clauses will be a sure-fire hit with fans of the comedy franchise, and could well pull in some new viewer too considering the original movie is now fast approaching its 30th anniversary.

The full synopsis for The Santa Clauses reads: “Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.”

The Santa Clauses debuts on Disney+ on November 16.
