‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Premiere Sets New Records for the Show

The White Lotus has returned with Season 3, and it is setting new records for HBO and Max. The show was number one globally when it premiered on Sunday, drawing a record 2.4 million cross-platform viewers in the United States. That’s 57% higher than Season 2’s numbers when it debuted back in Oct. 2022, which had 1.5 million viewers, and 144% higher than Season 1 in 2021 (944,000). On Rotten Tomatoes, the premiere episode has a terrific 96% critical and audience rating. However, it’s been swapping first place with Max’s other hit show, The Pitt starring Noah Wyle, which premiered back on Jan. 9, 2025.

Other records The White Lotus is setting and breaking, per Max, include doubling Season 2’s premiere along with a growth of 90% since Sunday night within the first 36 hours in the U.S. The total after a day-and-a-half is 4.6 million cross-platform viewers. Additionally, the show was a huge hit in Europe and Latin America, more than tripling its numbers compared to the debut of Season 2. When it comes to those who are catching up on previous episodes, there was an 84% jump in volume the week prior to the premiere versus the same time leading up to Season 2. Finally, the previous seasons saw an increase of 7x to 8x in growth from their respective premiere night volumes, with Season 1 averaging 9.3 million viewers and Season 2 averaging 15.5 million viewers.

As of this writing, The White Lotus holds the number one spot on the Max top 10 chart both in the United States and globally. However, it’s been a heated battle between it and The Pitt, with that show hitting the top spot just hours ago. And it says quite a lot about Wyle’s medical drama, since it premiered close to six weeks ago. It holds a very positive 93% critical and 75% audience rating on RT and viewers can’t get enough of Wyle in a role reminiscent of his days as Dr. John Carter on ER.

The White Lotus Season 4 Location Teased

While Season 3 has only just premiered, HBO has already renewed Season 4 and even teased where the next location could be. The hotel was set in Hawaii for the first season, while it moved to Italy for Season 2 and Thailand for Season 3. HBO Executive Vice President, Francesca Orsi, dropped a major tease regarding the location of the White Lotus hotel for Season 4:

“I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

With the show opting for exotic and warm locations, and Italy already being a European locale, there are some options the producers could set The White Lotus. Spain and its Mallorca island is one consideration, while Portugal, Greece, the south of France, and a few other more tropical locations could be a fun option.
