Academy Award nominee Tom Hardy has revealed that his upcoming comic book movie sequel, Venom 3, is now in pre-production. The actor took to social media to announce the news, sharing a look back at one of his other adventures as Eddie Brock, aka Venom, and how the pair love to fight for the right over Brock’s body.
It’s great to watch Hardy’s commitment to squirming and writhing play out in real-time and without any of the cinematic magic, and no doubt the actor will be doing it all over again in Venom 3. Hardy first played the lead dual roles of Eddie Brock and Venom back in 2018’s Venom, which introduces the Marvel villain/antihero as a guerrilla journalist investigating experiments of human trials and unwittingly being merged with a symbiotic alien with lethal abilities.

After making a hugely impressive $856 million worldwide, as well as mixed reviews, Venom was met with a sequel in 2021. Directed by Andy Serkis, Venom: Let There Be Carnage reunites audiences with Brock and his extra-terrestrial buddy as the journalist attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who becomes the host of an alien symbiote similar to Venom named Carnage.
Much like its predecessor, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was met with decidedly mixed reviews from critics. However, like its predecessor, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was loved by audiences, grossing $502 million worldwide and becoming the seventh highest-grossing movie of the year.
Thus, Venom 3 is now happening, with Tom Hardy returning to the lead roles. The threequel is being directed by Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage writer Kelly Marcel in her directorial debut.

Venom 3 Will Continue to Build the Venom-Verse
Sony Pictures Releasing
Plot details for Venom 3 are currently being kept under wraps. Still, Hardy has stated that he wants to continue to build out the “Venom-Verse,” Sony’s separate, Spider-Man-villain-focused shared universe that includes the likes of Morbius and Kraven the Hunter alongside Venom. Of course, Hardy is not against joining Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and the MCU at the same time.
“Once it’s established, we then have to continue our Venom-verse,” the actor explained. “But at the same time, we will always be looking to campaign to play with that with all the brothers and sisters who are out there, do you know what I mean? Whether we can connect the dots, that’s up to the constellations, and that’s above my pay grade, but we would be remiss not to think about that when we’re working on the material.”
The last audiences saw of Eddie Brock was during a post-credits scene at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw the journalist and Venom dragged into the MCU, spending the whole time in a bar, and then being dragged back to their own universe. Of course, a dribble of the symbiote was left behind…
It has also been a few years since audiences saw Tom Hardy, but the actor now has several projects in the pipeline alongside Venom 3. The actor will take the action hero lead in Havoc from The Raid director Gareth Evans and join Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Michael Shannon in the drama The Bikeriders.
