Violent Night director Tommy Wirkola has confirmed there talks are now underway regarding a sequel. Speaking with THR, Wirkola even revealed what he would like to see explored in Violent Night, with the filmmaker hoping to introduce his take on the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, and Santa’s Elves.
“A little bit. It sounds stupid, but I’m a big believer in not jinxing anything. I’m like, “Can we just wait a little bit?” But, of course the writers have talked about it, and I have thrown some ideas out there. We don’t see the North Pole, we don’t see Mrs. Claus and we don’t see the elves. There were also a few ideas that we loved in the script, but we had to cut them because we couldn’t afford to shoot them. It’s such a cliché to say, but we all had a blast doing this film. So I really hope we get to explore it more.”
During the interview, it is suggested that Wirkola reunite with his The Trip and What Happened to Monday? star Noomi Rapace, with the director thinking she would make a great Mrs. Claus.
“(Laughs.) She would make an amazing Mrs. Claus. Crazily enough, I haven’t thought about casting that role yet, but she would be great.”
Starring David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Beverly D’Angelo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, and André Eriksen, Violent Night finds Harbour’s Santa reaching into his sack and bringing out the big guns after a team of elite mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage. But the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.

Violent Night 2 Has David Harbour Wanting to Add the Easter Bunny & The Tooth Fairy
Universal Pictures
All this talk of Violent Night 2 already has Santa Claus himself, David Harbour, pitching his own ideas. Asked what he would like to see happen in a potential sequel, Harbour revealed that he would love to add The Mandalorian and The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal and Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac to this warped festive feast. Harbour has even chosen the perfect parts for Pascal and Isaac to play, positing that the two actors could join his Santa as the Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy, respectively.
“We gotta get Pedro [Pascal] and Oscar [Isaac] to play the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy in the next iteration,” Harbour said of his hopes for Violent Night 2 before calling for a Violent Night Cinematic Universe, “the Santa cinematic universe with a bunch of ‘daddies’ as imaginary creatures.”
While at present this is just a half-backed idea put forward by David Harbour, audiences would no doubt love to see the likes of the Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy depicted by Pascal and Isaac. With both characters waging a violent war much like Harbour’s Santa does in Violent Night.
Violent Night exploded into theaters earlier this month, and was met with positive reviews from critics as well as a decent box office return. Both of which will surely lead to Violent Night 2 getting the greenlight.
