Aerosmith to reunite for performance at Steven Tyler’s charity event

Aerosmith are reportedly set to reunite for a brief performance next month – find out more below.

The band announced their abrupt retirement from touring in August last year after frontman Steven Tyler suffered a serious vocal cord injury while performing in 2023. Their final live show took place at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York back in September 2023, and no one – including the band themselves – knew it would be their last.

Now, however, it appears that the band will be reconvening for a special performance as part of Tyler’s Jam For Janie charity event in early February. The sixth annual event will be held on February 2 at the Hollywood Paladium and will double as a Grammy viewing party.

Per Billboard, the band will be performing at the event, though details surrounding the performance remain under wraps. Also performing at Jam For Janie are Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Linda Perry, Matt Sorum and Nuno Bettencourt.

Besides it continued support of Tyler’s own Janie’s Fund, which provides critical resources for young women in America who have experienced abuse and neglect, this year’s charity event will include fundraising for several organisations in the recovery and quelling of the Los Angeles wildfires. The event will also welcome over 100 firefighters.

Aerosmith’s involvement in the Jam For Janie event comes after the band’s bassist Tom Hamilton recently spoke about the future of the band and said that the members “could do something” if Steven Tyler was willing.

“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace,” he said. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big ‘if’, and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction. If we do anything in the future, it would come from him.”

Aerosmith’s final live show was held as part of their ‘Peace Out’ tour, which began in 2023, but only saw the band play three nights, before rescheduling the rest of the dates after Tyler injured his larynx.

Following the announcement that Aerosmith’s touring days had come to an end, numerous famous faces shared their sadness at the news. Queen’s Brian May said that the announcement “brought a tear” to his eye, while Sammy Hagar shared his long history with the members, calling the retirement “a great fucking loss”. It was later confirmed that fans could watch the band’s final ever show on YouTube in 4K quality.

Tom Hamilton also gave fans an update on how the decision to quit tour was made last year: “The decision was made by the team which includes the band and our dedicated management… We don’t know what the future holds but it won’t include touring.”

Hamilton also said he “can’t imagine” the band continuing with a new singer, and added: “I’m sure all of us have music in our future and it will manifest itself in ways that we haven’t planned yet. I’ve been playing in a band with some good friends. We have a bunch of really good songs and we hope to be putting them out soon and hopefully doing some gigs.”
