Christopher Walken watches ‘Severance’ on DVD as he doesn’t “have the equipment” to stream it

Christopher Walken has revealed that he has Severance DVDs sent to him because he doesn’t “have the equipment” to stream it.

The sci-fi thriller returned with its second season on Friday (January 17) with first episode Hello, Ms. Cobel directed by Ben Stiller. It picks up five months after the first season, set in a company where highly classified work is kept secret by separating the consciousnesses of employees.

Now, Walken, who stars in the hit Apple TV+ series, has admitted that he watches the show via DVD and not on the streaming platform.

In an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, he shared that he hasn’t watched all the episodes, adding: “I can’t. I don’t have the equipment, so they’re good enough to send me DVDs.”

Cohen then responded: “Oh, they do? Okay. Do you have an Apple TV+ subscription?”, to which Walken replied: “I don’t have anything.”

The show, which was created by Dan Erickson and directed by Stiller and Aoife McArdle, stars Adam Scott as Mark, an employee of Lumon Industries who consents to a “severance” program that separates his work and non-work memories. John Turturro and Patricia Arquette also star.

Apple’s synopsis for season two reads: “In Severance Mark Scout (Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives.

“This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the centre of an unravelling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.”

So far, the show has received positive reception from fans, with some on social media describing it as “peak television” and having them “locked in”.

This has extended to critics, with NME giving the new season five stars. Reviewer James Mottram called the show “the smartest thing on TV”, encouraging viewers to “enjoy the ride and let this unique show tease and titillate your brain until you finally submit”.

Recently, a publicity stunt for the new season went viral when cast members recreated their in-show office at New York’s Grand Central Station. New episodes of Severance will be released weekly on Apple TV+ from January 16 to March 21.
