Social media reacts to Chadwick Boseman’s final Twitter post, which voiced support for Kamala Harris

Over the last few days, social media has been reacting to Chadwick Boseman’s final Twitter post, which voiced support for Kamala Harris.

The Black Panther actor passed away at the age of 43 in 2020 following a four-year illness with colon cancer.

Weeks before his death, Boseman shared his support for Harris as she became Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020, months before she and Biden beat Donald Trump in the presidential elections.

The post showed a picture of him and Harris laughing and hugging from a Freedom For Immigrants event in 2018. You can see the full post here:

Over the weekend (July 21), Biden officially withdrew as the US Democratic presidential candidate. It came after a poor performance in the first presidential debate against Trump and amid continued concerns about his fitness for office.

At a press conference at the NATO Summit recently, Biden mistakenly referred to Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin” and to his Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump”.

After watching the presidential debate on June 27, Stephen Colbert said Biden’s disastrous performance “took a year off my life”.

Author Stephen King also suggested Biden should step down after the debate, saying it was in the “interest” of the country to do so. While George Clooney penned an op-ed piece in the New York Times in which he encouraged Biden to step down as the Democratic nominee, saying he has the power to save democracy by doing so.

Following his departure, Biden immediately endorsed Harris to be the next president of the US and a host of stars soon came out to respond to the political update, including Ariana Grande, Lizzo, Charli XCX and Barbra Streisand, and outlets including Stereogum have reported that Harris’ campaign raised a reported $81million in the 24 hours since Biden dropped out. If that figure is true, it will be the largest single-day total raised by any candidate in US history.

Others backing Harris to be the Democrat presidential candidate included John Legend – who called for the American public to “elect Kamala Harris as our President” – George Takei, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

In the wake of this support, Boseman’s tweet resurfaced and quickly garnered significant attention on social media. One fan wrote: “Remember this tweet from Chadwick Boseman in 2020? It was his last tweet before his tragic passing. It bears repeating. Especially today & every day until we all vote together in November to ensure democracy rules and President Kamala Harris beats Trump.”

Support Vice President Kamala Harris for President, she had Chadwick Boseman’s support for vice president, and she’s got my support for President of the United States of America; what about you?

Chadwick Boseman would be really happy if Kamala does become our president for November, and I think I’d be happy for Chadwick too. Oh if only he were still here with us, may he RIP always :’)

Meanwhile, footage from CNN has been making the rounds on social media this week, after the hosts attempted to explain Charli XCX ‘Kamala is Brat’ meme to their viewers.

It emerged after the singer made a nod to the success of her latest album (and pop culture phenomenon) by sharing a tweet reading “Kamala IS brat”.

Not only did it play into ‘Brat’ being the album of the summer, it also came after a video of the Vice President was mashed up with the Charli song ‘360’ was created and soon went viral online.

Honing into the support from the singer, Harris’ HQ team soon launched a new Twitter banner in the style of Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’ artwork – and CNN found itself having to explain the ‘Brat Summer’ trend to its viewers.
