Netflix’s new anime series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is out now, but who is voicing the iconic character? Read on to find out.
The show is based on the legendary video game series, and is set specifically in the same continuity as the game’s reboot ‘Survivor’ trilogy of Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018).
The events of the show take place after the conclusion of the latter game, and bring the timeline up to date with the game’s original series.
Tasha Huo is overseeing the anime series, all eight episodes of which were released onto Netflix on Thursday (October 10).
A synopsis for the show states: “Following the events of the Survivor Trilogy, Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures.
“But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.”
It is not the only Tomb Raider television series in the works. In May, Amazon Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios announced that a new Tomb Raider series was in development with video game developer Crystal Dynamics. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will write and executive produce for the series.
Who voices Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft?
It was announced in September 2021 that Hayley Atwell was taking up the voice role of Lara Croft.
The 42-year-old British actress is best known for her role as Agent Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including her first role as Captain America: The First Avenger and her own spinoff series Agent Carter (2015-16).
Atwell has also starred in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Cinderella, Christopher Robin and The Duchess.
Lara Croft was previously portrayed in two Hollywood films by Angelina Jolie, and by Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot.
