The Veilguard’ confirms release date

After years of teasing, BioWare has finally confirmed a release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Dragon Age 4 was confirmed by BioWare back in 2020, with the studio releasing a string of updates over the past few years. In 2022, it was confirmed the latest entry in the Dragon Age franchise was fully playable from start to finish but there were concerns the release of the game could “slip” into 2025.

Now, it’s been confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released later this year. Alongside the news that the game will launch October 31 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, BioWare has also shared a new trailer for the game.

“These are the times in which legends are born, or slain. Return to Thedas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard,” reads the description. “Solas’s ritual is interrupted – but at what cost? The corrupt Elven gods have broken free and are hellbent on blighting the world. It’s up to you to unite the Veilguard and fight back against these ancient rulers.”

“As someone who’s been working on Dragon Age for over 15 years, I know just how much our community has been looking forward to this day, and I’m equally excited to share and celebrate that the game will officially launch on October 31,” added creative director John Epler. “We wanted to give you the choice to really express yourself, and do that in a world full of adventure and danger. So whether you’re a Warrior, Rogue or a Mage, we can’t wait for you to gear up, gather your party, and set out for another thrilling adventure through Thedas this Halloween.”

However, EA has been criticised for the number of different variants of Dragon Age: The Veilguard that are currently available to pre-order, with a handful not even including the game.

Dragon Age 4 was originally going to be released as Dreadwolf but earlier this year, BioWare confirmed it was renaming the game to the Veilguard to better reflect the narrative of the game. “The original title didn’t show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes, their stories and how you’ll need to bring them together to save all of Thedas,” explained BioWare boss Gary McKay. The game has reportedly been developed to appeal to both veterans and newcomers to the franchise.

In other news, Activision has issued a cease & desist letter against a hugely popular Call Of Duty mod, hours before it was due to launch.
