One feature curiously absent in Pokémon TCG Pocket at launch is trading. While you can grab some cards others skipped out on from their packs, you aren’t able to properly trade duplicates or even unique cards. But the feature can be seen in the menu.
So, when will trading actually come to Pokémon TCG Pocket? Here is what we know and how it could work based off some of the other systems in the game right now.
Trading will most likely arrive before the end of the year in Pokémon TCG Pocket. This is a guess, as the feature can already be seen in the game’s menu, suggesting it is ready to go. Plus, it is also in a number of trailers for the game. You just can’t click on the trading option.
It could be that The Pokemon Company just wanted to give everyone some time to build out there collections before they start passing cards between each other.
Additionally, it could mean that the feature is somewhat complex compared to the rest of the game. After all, the target audience for Pokémon TCG Pocket isn’t the same as those playing the game competitively. Either way, trading is on its way, as you can see from the game’s social menu.

Trading will likely not allow you to freely swap whatever cards you like. There will almost certainly be restrictions, such as forcing you to only trade cards of the same rarity, or perhaps even the same type and evolution stage. We do hope there isn’t a cost to this, and you can simply trade cards you are happy with, not paying any real money or having to use the limited resources you get when levelling up.
As more expansion sets get added too, it will be interesting to see if you can trade cards between sets and across expansions, provided they meet the requirements. But we will need to wait for The Pokemon Company to properly detail how trading will work before we know.
