Netflix is already home to some amazing action films, but one of the best action trilogies of all time is headed to the streamer next month. Netflix’s original action offerings, including Rebel Ridge and Extraction, are already popular with users, and Tom Hardy even got in on the intense action game earlier this year with Havoc. But it’s a much older action series that is headed to Netflix in August. The trilogy doesn’t just sit in the action genre; it also blends quippy jokes and hilarious action design, and is a fan favorite action comedy trilogy. The first movie, released in 1998, is often regarded as one of the greatest action comedies of all time. While the sequel and threequel didn’t quite live up to the same standard, the trilogy is still beloved by many, and there is even talk of a fourth installment, but that has been delayed many times already.
The trilogy follows two cops, one from the US and one from China, as they’re partnered together to stop various high-profile crimes. Chris Tucker stars as the US cop, Carter, with Jackie Chan portraying his international counterpart, Lee. If you hadn’t guessed already, the Rush Hour trilogy will begin streaming on Netflix on August 1. Rush Hour, which is still considered to be the best film in the trilogy, was a decent critical hit when it was released in ’98. The film holds a modest 62% Rotten Tomatoes rating, with a stronger 79% audience score. The official synopsis reads:
“When a Chinese diplomat’s daughter is kidnapped in Los Angeles, he calls in Hong Kong Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) to assist the FBI with the case. But the FBI doesn’t want anything to do with Lee, and they dump him off on the LAPD, who assign wisecracking Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) to watch over him. Although Lee and Carter can’t stand each other, they choose to work together to solve the case on their own when they figure out they’ve been ditched by both the FBI and police.”

Audiences all across the world have been hoping for Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker to team up once again for ‘Rush Hour 4’ and another epic adventure.
Chan and Tucker followed the original film up with the sequel, appropriately titled Rush Hour 2, in 2001. Critics held harsher opinions on the sequel, bestowing it with a divisive 51% Rotten Tomatoes rating. But, audiences came to its defense, as it holds a strong 74% audience rating. However, it’s the threequel where things get dicey. Released in 2007, Rush Hour 3 was slated by critics, holding a measly 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. But, audiences still enjoyed the film, as it holds a 63% audience rating.
What Is Going On With ‘Rush Hour 4’?

As Netflix users get ready to dive into the wacky world of Rush Hour on August 1, long-time fans of the franchise are still twiddling their thumbs waiting for Rush Hour 4. The film has bounced in and out of development hell for years, seemingly inching closer to production each time before being shelved.
Both Chan and Tucker are up for one more outing as Lee and Tucker. The most recent update on Rush Hour 4 was a dour one, as Chan revealed that even he has no idea what state the project is in, saying:
“”Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour. The script is still going on. I want to do a Rush Hour 4.
