NFL fines Ravens $100K for incorrect Week 8 injury report on Jackson

The NFL has fined the Baltimore Ravens $100,000 for incorrectly listing quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice participation status on the Oct. 24 injury report.

Jackson was initially listed as questionable and a full participant in Friday’s practice leading up to the Week 8 contest against the Chicago Bears. The following day, the star signal-caller was ruled out, and the team retroactively changed his participation status to limited.

Baltimore fully cooperated with the NFL’s investigation, and the league determined that the injury report violation was due to negligence, not an attempt to gain a competitive edge, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. If the investigation determined that the Ravens misreported Jackson’s status intentionally, they could’ve been docked draft picks, Pelissero adds.

The Ravens ultimately won the contest 30-16 while playing without Jackson.

“Nobody’s trying to hide anything,” Harbaugh said after the win last weekend. “There’s no advantage to be gained with that.”

The issue arose because Jackson was taking backup snaps, a change from his everyday role as the starter. Harbaugh added that he isn’t the one who fills out or submits the injury report.

“I’m not involved in those rules,” he said. “I don’t know those particular rules. I think in their defense, he practiced a full practice. I think they felt like because he did the same number of reps, it was a full practice, but when you dig in and you read the rule, at the end of the day it wasn’t right. As soon as we found out, we changed it.”

Baltimore won again Thursday night in Jackson’s return to the starting lineup, defeating the Miami Dolphins 28-6. Its next contest comes Nov. 9 versus the Minnesota Vikings.
