NFL suspends Panthers’ Moehrig 1 game for punching Jennings

The NFL suspended Carolina Panthers safety Tre’Von Moehrig one game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct during Monday night’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, the league announced Tuesday.

Moehrig punched 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings in the groin area late in the game.

Jennings approached Moehrig after the game and hit him in the helmet, which sparked a scrum between the teams.

Moehrig is appealing the suspension, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He will miss Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams if the ban is upheld.

“I was just responding to some childish behavior,” Jennings said postgame about why he went up to Moehrig after the contest.

Jennings added, “It was just out of nowhere. It’s probably just the history of me playing ball. I play hard. I’m physically stronger than a lot of DBs out there. A lot of things happen in between the whistle with me at least.”

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan credited Jennings for “not losing his mind” after the incident.

San Francisco improved to 8-4 with the 20-9 win over the Panthers. Carolina dropped to 6-6, failing to gain ground on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.
