Nicki Minaj’s song ‘Anxiety’ is yet again trending on social media, and as could be expected, not everyone is reveling in it. The song has enjoyed a massive resurgence-in-popularity thanks to TikTok after being released in 2022, and people are starting to get over it. A tweet by user ‘welp.’ encapsulated the mood, where they sarcastically quoted the lyric, ‘somebody’s watching me, it’s my anxiet-,’ along with a link to the song. The replies? Exhaustion mixed with humor and sheer frustration.

Winter Sphincter started things off by saying Nicki’s last major hit was in 2022, but yeah, that puts things in perspective. I mean, it feels like it’s been a hot minute, and here comes the song being thrown in one’s face again. PrismaticScars compared it to ‘Dance Monkey,’ another one that really got overplayed, calling this ‘the new Dance Monkey.’ Fair point; at first, the songs were awesome, but exposure made them overexposed and ruined.
Barbie added one more comment, ‘frr if I hear it one more time,’ and like, same. It’s not a bad song, but when you hear it every five seconds on TikTok, it feels like one big personal attack. ARMANÍ joked that he wanted to throw his HomePod out of the window because that’s what makes his “right eye twitch.” But hey, at least Nicki’s cashing in.
PortiaMINAJ dropped an atomic bomb by blocking every page that had anything to do with the song which is definitely a vibe. Sometimes you just need to have a clean-up on your timeline. On the other end of that spectrum sits Aziz💙🤍, who can’t wait to see first-week sales of the album, but that’s another bowl of soup. Like, seriously, does overplay equal success or just all-out annoyance at this point?
The comments heated up even more when welp called it Unholy 2.0 referring it to Smith and Petras’ hit which was also a victim of overplay. Neerdy🧸 suggests that TikTok create an audio-blocking option. Which… why the hell don’t they have already? Gmszz6 said that though the song was hot initially, it is now an osche-dub.
Then comes cam, who went for the jugular: ‘she’s not beating the industry plant allegations.’ Oof! Now this is one hell of a conspiracy theory. Hip Hop Rap Live was confused and said they hadn’t even heard of this song, which… how? Are they living under a rock or are we just terminally online?
Fart ended it by saying Anxiety, and Dance Monkey are, indeed, “the top 2 most obnoxious songs out there in this decade,” which is a hot take but also kinda true.
So what do you think? Very catchy, but TikTok is relentless with their algorithm in ensuring we’ll never want to hear it again. It’s not really music anymore; it’s social media ruining anything it can with a nice squeeze. Nicki is still winning, though, love it or hate it; it’s still a conversation, and that’s what counts in music.
