Shohei Ohtani failed to reach base during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 3-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, ending his 53-game streak dating back to last season.
Ohtani’s on-base run finishes tied with Shawn Green for the second longest in Dodgers history. Duke Snider holds the franchise record at 58 games, set in 1954.
The two-way star finished the game 0-for-4 with one strikeout. While he didn’t manage to reach base, Ohtani did throw six shutout innings on the mound, striking out seven. He now owns a sparkling 0.38 ERA this season.
The Dodgers’ defeat marked the first time that the team was held scoreless this season.
Tyler Mahle pitched seven shutout inning on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts to pick up the win for the Giants. Patrick Bailey had the big swing in the game, hitting a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning.
